BI-POLAR POLAR (Alan Metacalfe)

The inspiration for this tune was Don Quixote's horse! I wrote it for my somewhat short-lived first electric band, 'Spice Island', although it is played acoustically here by me with Sarah Jones on rhythm guitar. As you can tell by the sound quality, this was recorded on a portable cassette recorder with inbuilt microphone. I think this dates from about 1982 or 3. Incidentally, there seem to be to different official spellings of the name of the horse but I managed to use a third one! It was a mistake but it's a bit late to change it now...

Made as part of Trinity Laban's CoLab. My project this year was led by Byron Wallen and explored how we could creatively respond to traditional African masks and their associated musics. This track was inspired by masks and music from the Bwa, Mumuye and Kwele peoples.
