Side by Side' is the closing track on the 5 song debut EP by Von Burl (Karen Crum). It was inspired by a rare trip to a classical concert the evening before she left to record her debut EP. The encore at the concert was a cello solo of a piece by a relatively obscure composer called Moeran. He was English, but had lived much of his life in Ireland (Karen's place of birth). Stunned by the emotion in the piece by Moeran, Karen went home that evening to pack for her recording session and wrote 'Side by Side' on the plane on her way to Belfast to record her EP. 'Side by Side' was recorded that week, but sparingly compared to the rest of the songs on the EP, using cello harmonics, her father on accordion, some improvised guitar by Ben McAuley, and Karen on acoustic guitar and vocal. It sparked a wistful, yet uplifting song, to close her debut EP.

Set the Tigers Free' is the opening song on the 5-track debut EP by Von Burl (Karen Crum) called 'Kind Ring Robot'. Karen wanted to move away from singer-songwriter acoustic guitar instrumentation and make an EP with arrangements that took her melancholic songs and made them bolder and uplifting.
