(It all ended the day we went to the zoo. I told him to be careful, but I think he was upset and he was just acting out! When he climbed up on the railing on the side of the bear cage and was swinging back and forth from that tree, I think he definitely could have made it if his foot hadn't slipped. But when the bear came over to see what was happening, he was so brave and took a swing, and then it ripped his head clean off. I always told him, "you should think before you act sometimes," but he never did, and that's why I loved him and I'll always love him... my daredevil).

Meet Mary Anne, she's on her way to the pharmacy
Two kids with heads full of nits, out of three
So she'll go and get a comb and a box or two of RID
That should do it--that's what the principal said
Charlie's watching the kids for the afternoon
Thank God cause they've been whining, whining
Her head is itching just a little bit too
But it's probably paranoia, or that new shampoo

Or so she hopes

She looks out the window at the bones of some homes that they're building
Soon they'll be filled with mothers just like her
Line the nests with stainless steel and Travertine
Practical choices for budget-minded birds
And now Mary Anne is itching, itching
And she's scratching at her scalp with a growing sense of dread
The turn for the strip mall is coming up in a bit
It crosses her mind to just keep driving instead

And just fly…

She thinks about the nature documentary
About the penguins with eggs held on their feet
Holding very still in the chill of Antarctica
Nothing but their time and the warmth of their hearts to give

If she kept driving, driving on
In an hour she could be gone
