While this Vancouver trio's journey has really just begun, they're taking scope of years of impactful interactions and personal growth with their expansive and emotional debut album, To Bring You My Heart. The record's roots trace back to Kurdyak's early days as a solo performer, from playing coffee shops on her own to building a songbook with a full backup band. It's a multi-faceted dip into modern pop that features production and writing collaborations from talent as diverse, yet complimentary, as the resulting collection of tracks, including Steve Bays (Hot Hot Heat), Hawksley Workman, Kevvy Mental (Fake Shark), Tavish Crowe (Carly Rae Jepsen) and more. As the tracks took shape, whether by flirting with the shadowy sounds of noir-N-b or the sock hop pep of '60s girl groups, Kate's sister Lauren Kurdyak and long-time friend Kaitlyn Hansen-Boucher stepped up to take on a larger role in helping realize her vision and the three decided to come together as The Katherines. While Kate handles the songwriting duties, Lauren Kurdyak and Hansen-Boucher bring their own distinct flavours to the pieces in studio sessions, onstage performances, and during the odd busking session down on Vancouver's waterfront. The group is releasing their debut single "Cherry Lips" this spring with the album expected later this year.
