The next Voyage Series installment comes from an enigmatic UK artist who's been quietly releasing music on his own Galdoors and Dote labels for the last near-decade. His music is precise, unique, and effective; the product of an artist who has mastered his craft, taking a traditional UK sound into new territories to make it his own.

This is Junes in full swing. Space-focused, high-tempo pumpers with a flourish into the ether towards the end. Lovely stuff.

Flori’s Life Signs marks the eighth release for Voyage and the UK artists debut for the label. An ode to the unexplored landscapes of Mars, Flori uses a refined aesthetic, not dissimilar to the original star gazers of Detroit, to imagine and encapsulate the reality of being alone on Point Lake. Two driving explorations, accompanied by a pensive ambient excursion, Life Signs takes Flori and Voyage into the areocentric orbit of our closest terrestrial neighbour.

Life Signs is accompanied by a full sleeve interpretation from Melbourne’s Sam Donaldson.

In their own words "It follows the progression of what we imagine it would be like in the moment of pre and post takeoff"

Over the past three years Melbourne’s Albrecht La’Brooy have patiently cultivated their own space within Australia’s proli c electronic music scene. Deeply rooted in techno’s ambient in uences, the duo improvise their compositions with an overarching approach that breaks away from techno’s conventional presentation.

Recorded in one take from beginning to end, Escape Velocity sees Albrecht La’Brooy take on the Voyage aesthetic and principles to create a twenty  ve minute odyssey spanning four passages, to be played continuously across the 12” medium.

Utilising both sparse, drifting ambient palettes and driving, machine-led rhythms, Escape Velocity is a pensively uplifting account of future travels through space and the ninth instalment to the Voyage catalogue.

Melbourne’s prolific electronic music scene recruited another valuable member last year, when Perth-born producer Katie Campbell, or Roza Terenzi, joined what has become a popular migration of budding West Australian musicians moving to the east coast.

Roza told us that about two years ago she felt she’d progressed enough musically to warrant an identity shift, taking the solid reputation she’d built with her first moniker Catlips into her Roza Terenzi alter ego.

And it looks like it’s paying off. She’s been making big waves around Australia – at least big enough to induce international demand that will see her set off on her first North America and European tour later this year. These waves have come in the form of some impressive gigs and records, like her debut live set at the carefully curated Inner Varnika festival near Melbourne last weekend. And on the record front, she’s about to drop arguably her biggest record to date: a four-track EP on Voyage Recordings.

“I was in the zone of listening to lots of experimental and trancey stuff,” Katie told us, explaining the creative origins of the upcoming record.

Our premiere is the remix from Vancouver’s own, D. Tiffany, AKA DJ Zozi. At least for the sake of the EP’s musical unity and cohesion, D. Tiffany was a wise choice for a Roza remix, with plenty of stylistic similarities between the two. In fact, their cross-continental synergy recently saw the completion of their collaborative EP on Vancouver label Planet Euphorique, set for release on April 30. So it’s no surprise this remix slots in quite seamlessly next to the three originals.

Our next guests have been immersed in the city's electronic music scene for the best part of the last decade, collecting and absorbing music, steadily building a following with their distinctive take on left-field dance music from all corners of the world.

We're treated to a special recording of Millú (@millydavison) and Pjenné's (@pjenne) set taken from Melbourne's Inner Varnika festival earlier this year where the two played after Roza Terenzi on the Saturday night. Enjoy!

Voyage Series 12: Rings Around Saturn

KRN is a force to be reckoned with. A true digger, with a unique sound taking inspiration from the more obscure roots of 90's UK and Chicago house. A resident at Berlin's Ghost parties, his enigmatic sets are classy, pumping and always delivered with that KRN smile.

@grantcamov aka DJ Camov aka @goasis aka @proj95 (alongside the Melbourne Deepcast's Myles Mac) spins smooth classics from the bygone eras of house, trance, liquid dnb and all iterations in-between. Huerta’s debut album for Voyage is a righteous journey along the coast of California; a psychosomatic blend of melodic rhythm, natural sounds and ambient textures.

Recorded throughout 2019, Huerta combines a blissful wash of west coast inspired ambient with the more affable, rhythmic house cuts he has been previously known for. Drawing on the surrounding landscapes of his upbringing, Huerta’s ode to the Juniper tree is an immersive and introspective experience; a long player capable of taking you to an elevated state of mind.

The vinyl version plays through continuously and will be accompanied by a feature-length animation created by UK artist Danimation.

In every scene there are mainstay figures who stand behind the spot light, investing their time and energy into parties, podcasts, radio shows, events and everything in-between. For as long as Myles has been active, he has been contributing to Melbourne's electronic music scene through the Melbourne Deepcast, the weekly party Lost Weekend (RIP) and many more collaborations and DJ sets; not just in Melbourne but around Australia and the world.

A fine selector with a distinct ear for ethereal qualities, he can play across the spectrum but will always call house his home.

Voyage Series 16: Myles Mac

2019 was a milestone year for a wave of UK and US artists with an ear for the hard to find electronic music of a bygone era. The likes of Youandewan, Huerta, KRN, The Ghost, Junes, Gene on Earth, Sugar Free and more helped push a timeless sound in Berlin, Europe and now the rest of the world. The expansion and success of these artists, and to some degree the movement, can be attributed to one man: Mad Dog.

The illustrious and incredibly humble booking agent has set the course for many of these artists, guiding them through the murky waters of dance music's crowded seas thanks to the years spent getting his own hands dirty, developing an intuition for the way forward. 

A man with fine taste for UK flavour, he's put together an hour for the series spanning IDM and house from back home and across the pond.
