Ayanna Heaven is a DJ, radio host, and event producer living in Brooklyn. She spent her childhood in her native St. Mary, Jamaica in the golden age of Jamaican Dancehall of the 90s. While her DJ work takes her on journeys into Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop, and other global sounds, Reggae & Dancehall remain at the core of her identity as a DJ.

She recently backed Reggae icon Sister Nancy and opened for Protoje, Lila Ike, and Jesse Royal. Other recent gigs for Spotify, Meta, and New York’s iconic Museum Of Modern Art have raised her profile, taking her to London and back to her home country of Jamaica in the process.

Her mix for 'Selectors Choice' hones in on the work of Vybz Kartel whose early work was released on Greensleeves - expect some hardcore Dancehall and some tuff lyrics and riddims mixed with style & finesse.

Mutabaruka, along with Linton Kwesi Johnson, established dub poetry as a force in reggae music in the late 1970’s. More than 40 years later, after several critically acclaimed albums, worldwide touring, a long-running popular, often controversial radio show on Irie-FM, and regular posting of provocative video commentaries on YouTube, Mutabaruka steps forward with “Black Attack”, a hard-hitting new single produced by Mad Professor. It is the first single from Mutabarka’s first new album in 14 years of the same name released on October 6, 2023, by Shanachie Entertainment. The album "Black Attack" is now available via Shanachie on vinyl.

As some of you might have guessed by now, music is incredibly important to me. I can't imagine not having the ability to express my creativity and discover more about myself through music; I've always had the option of studying, creating, and performing on musical instruments. I don't know where I would be if my family hadn't been economically able to provide me with all those opportunities. 

Therefore, I think it's important for me to give back. I want to do what I can to help make such opportunities available for people that otherwise couldn't afford them. In an ideal world, monetary barriers wouldn't hinder anyone's ability to experience self-discovery, creativity, and personal growth through music. Although this may only be a small contribution, hopefully I can help lift some of those barriers by donating any money generated by my new single "Everchanging", which comes out on Monday, to VH1 Save The Music Foundation.
