Lichter is the first piece in a new series of electroacoustic dub compositions by Mouse on Mars. It is a massive, lurching, up-tempo percussive epic – a long-haul runaway train that keeps switching tracks without ever losing sight of its destination. Like much of Mouse on Mars’ output, Lichter deftly traverses a varied sonic landscape, encompassing elements of jazz, dub, krautrock juke and psychedelia. 

Lichter incorporates trigger robots built by Sonic Robots’ Moritz Simon Geist and features Andi Toma & Jan St. Werner’s long time collaborator Dodo NKishi on percussion. The basic layers were produced with a feedback software called smrph, and were edited, arranged and used as a foundation for various live and studio improvisations. The 13min track, Lichter, is a concentration of these various layers. Lichter is also a highly visual piece, and performed live it employs a bespoke network of light-bulbs triggered by data derived from the sounds and pulses of the composition.

Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner have been recording and playing live as Mouse on Mars since 1993, and have released over a dozen albums. In 2014 the duo celebrated their 21st birthday with a curated festival at Berlin’s HAU theatres, and an accompanying compilation which showcased the band’s numerous collaborations.

»winter, or a time which represents that season, in a metropole that appears to be moscow. the visitor is taking metro no. 6 at leninsky prospect as he is on his way to the ballroom close to gorky park. the air is icy, the sky is grey. a cat, previously hidden among the dirty snow, is crossing his way. the closer he gets to his destination, the clearer he can hear music, music that reminds him of future days.

the dimly lit room is only sparsely filled. on stage a graceful singer, capturing the room with her presence. captive voices merge with chords played on yet unknown instruments – machine rhythms cycle in 3/4 time. the vigorous peasant dancers, following an instinctive knowledge of the weight of fall, utilize their surplus energy to press all their strength into the proper beat of the measure, thus intensifying their personal enjoyment in dancing. here, in the transhuman ballroom, time stands still and values are being dissolved by numeric progressions. spiritually allied, the visitor, the singer and the peasant dancers short-circuit the present moment while the last falling snow slowly turns into rain.«

with »walzerzyklus«, atom™ returns to raster to complete his series that has once begun with »liedgut« and continued with »winterreise«. the 7 tracks, created in collaboration with russian singer lisokot, are subdivided into 3 pieces of 2 minutes each and 4 pieces of 3 minutes each, intentionally reflecting the 3/4 time of a classic waltz.

throughout the release, lisokot’s delicate vocals are put into different relations to atom™’s rather cool machine music, either complementing or contrasting each other. in the same line, the 3 shorter “leitmotifs” provide the main theme that is taken up repeatedly in the course of the release.

»walzerzyklus« will be released on CD and as special, laser-engraved vinyl edition limited to 300 copies.

A space to reflect, to remember and to look towards the future. 

For their third release London-based imprint Room II Records are calling on the skills of Slacker, a producer who's previously landed on Lobster Theremin and their UNDR sub-label. Signalling a more atmospheric and reflective direction than his previous outings, Mists Lift takes inspiration from elements of jungle, hardcore and DnB and half-time.

Speaking about the release, Slacker explains "I wrote these tracks when I lived with my parents and started working with children in need; it's my effort to navigate the themes of grief, love, friendship, and progression. ‘Mists Lift’ serves both as a reflection on this time as well as an exploration into the cathartic function that listening to and producing music have in helping me to understand the human experience. Intended to be introspective with a few bursts of rural life, I hope that ‘Mists Lift’ speaks to something deep within the listener as well as being geared to those special euphoric moments on the dance floor.

Stylistically, ‘Mists Lift’ draws inspiration from the atmospheric corners of the hardcore and jungle continuum. Although most obvious on ‘Escapism’, glimmers of the jungle attitude toward broken drums, loud basses, and glistening pads can be heard throughout. I hope you get as much enjoyment out of listening to 'Mists lift' as I did making it."

Out of print on CD for almost two decades, Cold Spring are proud to announce the official reissue of a much sought after 'Best Of' set by the acclaimed experimental group Coil, with 'A Guide For Beginners - The Voice Of Silver' and 'A Guide For Finishers - A Hair Of Gold' being made available together in one deluxe set.

Officially licensed from FEELEE, this edition spans Coil's entire career, featuring tracks from all their major albums. They were hand-picked by Coil to represent their best work and originally released to mark their first performance in Moscow in 2001.

The artwork (text in English and Russian Cyrillic) sympathetically features the rarest of the images previously used in the original Russian and English editions and is packaged in a deluxe, glossy 8-panel digipak with spot matt-laminate varnish.

The vinyl-only edition by FEELEE was released as two separate luxurious 2xLP editions in 2018 (http://feelee.bandcamp.com). All artwork for the Cold Spring edition has been approved by FEELEE.
