I know I shouldn't really try to explain my music too much, but this is something I truly want to share and would enjoy doing so regardless. Here is a brief explanation of the history of chess and what it means to me and the making of this song:

Chess is one of my favorite board games, and I've always loved how the queen is the most powerful chess piece. ‪The queen piece was not always known as the "queen" though, she was originally known as the "minister/advisor" and she was also one of the weakest pieces. The rise of the queen piece is deeply connected with the rise of female monarchs in Europe, that is how she came to be and I love that. Being a woman myself, I found that to be empowering. I intended this song to convey the same fierceness & fearlessness the queen piece portrays.

Though there are many variations of chess today, the widely accepted theory is that the earliest forms of chess originated from India. Then it traveled around and was changed over the centuries primarily by the Persians, Arabs, Chinese (singly), and then finally, the Europeans. So I combined elements from each of these ethnicities, from choice of instruments and sounds, to choice of melodies and arrangement, etc. Some either more subtle or prominent than the others, but still forming a combination of all of the above.

I actually started this idea nearly five years ago, it was supposed to be a competitive (for fun) response track to the song "I am the King" by James Meyers. When I first heard that song, I really enjoyed it, but I immediately thought of chess and wanted to make my "move" next. However, being unhappy with my own work at the time, I abandoned the idea for a while. Just last year, I came across the project again and it reignited my inspiration to finish it, so I gave it a whole new makeover. Thus becoming what it is now.

I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it. And remember, any pawn can become a queen too :) For those who may be unfamiliar with chess, a pawn is the weakest chess piece.

This song is very dear and special to me. It's dedicated to my sweet babygirl, Shizzle :) I made it about a year ago when she passed away. I love her very much and will always miss her. She was the first dog I ever grew up with and she will always have a special place in my heart. This song started off as a little playful guitar riff that one of my sisters made up years ago and used to always play. I've always loved it and thought it deserved a full song structure, but I never had the drive to develop it further until that incident occurred and brought my family a little closer together. The rest came so naturally. I poured my heart out on this one and everything about this song means a lot to me. I hope this is a good reminder for all of you to continue to love and appreciate your furry family members :) their lives are shorter than ours and we are their world.

Never been truly proud of my mixdowns. I am doing my best to stop my obsession with reaching perfection and lingering on to that limbo stage for too long. I have accepted that my mixing skills are just not up to par. However, my production skills is one thing I'm confident in (for the most part), and I truly enjoy what I make, so I hope you at least enjoy that side of my work, while I continue to strive to improve and move forward.
