Drawing from the world of UK bass yet again, Unbeyond Anthologies are pleased to present “Splinters Vol. 2”.

Following up the previous compilation from last year, the second entry in “Splinters” tightens the already closely-knit knot between Unbeyond and classic dubstep influence, comprising four new heaters in a variety of fresh styles.

Newcomer to the label ESKVY drops the opening song “Machina Talk” with by far the most energized flow of the collection, the shuffling percussion carrying along the colourful wobbles and psychedelic synths. “Shutter” by titans.reign invokes a desolate, apocalyptic soundscape with gritty white noise-laden basswork. Inductees QVEST and Thistlewilde team up for “Knit Systems”, which combines the former’s vast atmospheres and technical production with the latter’s abstract poetry and suffocating surrealism. “Super Ego” by Awkwerd closes out the compilation through rattling basses that fuse classic UK tearout and early riddim, topped off with mysterious vocal samples.

We were home alone, and the Cacophony decided it was time for another sacrifice, though “smaller” than the last. Their hunger wouldn't be satiated easily this time. They always ask for more. Always ask for more. As they tasted the fresh blood, I tried to cry, but my body didn’t have any tears. Whether from blood loss or from dissociation, I just sat there, numb, until I, finally, dispassionately bandaged the wounds. 

We’ve been through this same song and dance for years now. Each time I make these sacrifices, it demands more and more of me. I can feel myself splinter and chip away. Every slumber, every awakening and birth, they get stronger, I can feel it.

I can’t let them keep doing this. My lover found out what we’ve done and gave us an ultimatum; get clean or he leaves. I can’t fail again, but I know I will, sooner or later. I want to be in control again. Just leave me be! I don’t wanna go back, let me go… It hurts… It hurts so bad.

hastily put together during a downpour right before I made a bunch of life-altering decisions.

i've been fascinated by the idea of using extended delay to make simple melodies seem more complex for a while now. finally put that to use here and i think it turned out pretty cool.

"’Open Letters’ was born from the idea of being able to talk to myself. What would I say to my past or future selves? To me it's a really compelling idea, and from there it kinda expanded to more conceptual stuff and eventually took the form you're listening to now.” said Pulvite. “There's so much I could say about each of the individual tracks, but I'll let the words I've already written for my songs do that by themselves.”
