The composition aimed to capture the essence of Southern

hope. The process of recording and producing "Kicking Dirt" was a labor of
love. The arrangement included a slide guitar with fuzz FX in open C tuning
and a overdriven Organ and a Bass guitar to add texture - and a steady,
heartbeat-like drum. The vocals were delivered with a raw, earnest quality
capturing the pain, but also the hope, that permeates the lyrics. It embodies
the idea that, no matter how dire the situation may seem, there is strength in
simply continuing to move forward, to keep "kicking dirt."

"REST STOP" has always been one of those underrated gems. MAD SEASON was the soundtrack to a memorable summer I spent with my wife, so this song felt like the perfect choice for my first-ever recorded cover. I stayed true to the original but picked up the tempo slightly, raised the key by a half step, and added an acoustic solo at 2:25 to give it a fresh feel. Stripped down, heartfelt, and honest - hope you enjoy my take on this Matchbox Twenty classic.

After making his introduction during the mid 90's as the lead guitar player in the PHILADELPHIA based band "PIMPHAT", W. M FREUND steadily widened his approach over the years, encompassing everything from acoustic-folk to adult contemporary. Influenced by artisted like The Allman Brothers, James Taylor, Buddy Guy, Van Morrison, Stevie Wonder, The Meters,  ZZ Top, Sly and the Family Stone, Amos Lee, James Brown, and Dave Mathews,  he eventually landed in Charleston, SC.  Today you can find this electric guitarist performing all around the Lowcounty, either fronting "The Mike Freund Band", or working as a solo acoustic artist. With the retention of his pop/rock foundation, he readily and fluently performs up and down the South East Coast line.
