En los bosques, perdido… is a setting of the sixth love sonnet of the influential Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. The poem comes from his collection Cien sonetos de amor and is very characteristic of Neruda’s style. 
	In the dedication to his wife Matilde Urrutia, Neruda writes: 

“I knew very well that down the right sides of sonnets, with elegant discriminating taste, poets of all time have arranged rhymes that sound like silver, or crystal, or cannonfire. But - with great humility - I made these sonnets out of wood.”

The earthy sounds of wood are indeed present in this poem, the action of which takes place in a forest. Throughout the course of the piece, wooden percussion instruments and sounds are used to accentuate this color in the music. 
	En los bosques, perdido…, is for tenor voice, ocarina, percussion, and viola. The Ocarina, an instrument that has a long history in South American folk music, is featured prominently and alternates long passages with the tenor’s presentation of the poem’s four stanzas. 
	En los bosques, perdido… is approximately nine minutes in duration and was completed in March of 2011 in DeLand, Florida

Dmitri Shostakovich's Prelude No.1 in C Major, Op.34. 

For me, this prelude is one of the most beautiful and touching in his Op.34 set; and, being such a short musical gem, this was the first piece I chose to record in the session to try the piano. 

Recorded on the 30th of November, 2012 in the Cafritz Recording Studio in Washington, D.C. on a Steinway B piano.
