Painting On The Wall

More than an average violist, Wade Garrett McNutt is a musician with the dream of showing the world the power of classical and folk musics and wishes to bring it to a mainstream audience so that all may enjoy its glorious sounds and can understand the stories behind the music. He has kept this goal in mind as he has studied with countless teachers and evolved into the musician he is today.


After wanting to play a bowed instrument for years, Garrett finally picked up the viola in the fifth grade at Barney R. Greathouse Elementary School in Midland, Texas and studied with both Casey Newman and Jan Mayfield. As time went on and he “graduated” from Junior High under the direction of Lucy Proctor, Garrett stepped foot into Robert E. Lee High School and studied viola with Melissa Madura and Beau Garza. During his time there, he sat principal violist of both the varsity full and string orchestras and played rigorous orchestral and viola works. He has performed in the UIL State Solo and Ensemble competition many times.


Garrett now studies at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas under Dr. Kimberly Sparr and plays in the Texas Tech University Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Becker. He also currently with different world music ensembles including the Celtic Ensemble and Balkan Ensemble and the new Elegant Savages Orchestra (http://elegantsavagesorchestra.weebly.com/). He also plays with the Southwest Symphony Orchestra in Hobbs, New Mexico as well as taken up music copying.


After graduating from Texas Tech University, Garrett dreams of mastering the art of Irish Traditional Music and touring as an Tenor Banjo player. After touring, he then wants to form and conduct his own touring orchestra to reach out to the audiences everywhere to show the world what classical music is, how to understand it, and how to appreciate it. Until that dream becomes reality, when not in a practice room, Garrett can be found studying scores, spending time on the podium conducting various ensembles, or playing Tenor Banjo, Mandolin, Guitar, Ukulele, Fiddle, "bass fiddle", and even tin whistle.
