After sailing through soulful house waters with Hanna and RANGEr on their first two releases, Waella’s Choice turn their eyes on London jazz for their third. 

London On Key is a twelve-track compilation, showcasing some of the best pianists in the capital. Out on 29th March, the release coincides with Piano Day, an annual worldwide event which falls on the 88th day of the year (after the number of keys on a piano). 

Artists include longstanding figureheads to members of some of premium bands like Yussef Dayes Tio, Ruby Rushton, Vels Trio and The Comet Is Coming. Their contributions range from reflective compositions, disarming juxtapositions, jazz dance foundations, wonky synth grooves, pedal experimentations and a cover of UK trip-hop band Attica Blues from one of its co-founders. The result is a vibrant celebration of the piano and a calling card for the rude health of jazz in the capital. 

Artwork designed by Duval Timothy and will be available as prints alongside the digital release. 


More about Waella’s Choice 

Waella’s Choice was founded in June 2017 by Andy Lemay (Dimensions Festival), Will Edge (comm•une/Kobalt) and Aaron Levitt (Stamp The Wax/Worldwide FM). 

The first release came via Sound Signature affiliate Hanna with Bounce EP, hastily followed by RANGEr. Their mission ain’t fussy; simply to traverse the soulful regions of the dancefloor, booth, stage and wherever else people like to get down.

Waella’s Choice return with their fifth release, made in Detroit, remixed
in Melbourne and London. Adding to a growing stable of leading house artists who have already released on the London label, Detroit singer, producer (and dancer) Javonntte presents Drumma EP, traversing the deep and soulful spectrum with two original productions. 

The title track has the same instant magnetism as Hanna’s ‘Stranger’, which helped inaugurate Waella’s Choice in 2017. ‘Jazzpianodance’ takes a more broken approach, incorporating Javonntte’s love for jazz fusion. Something that would have felt right at home in the old Co-Op dances at plastic people. 

The B-side presents remixes from two young producers with a bright future. Melbourne-raised and now London-based, Crown Ruler member Winters follows up his 2018 debut for Parallel People with a low-slung RnB version. Touching Bass family Romaal Kultan ups the tempo with a weightier sucker- punch of breaks and broken percussion, primed for peak time impact.
