“Kwana” means “enough”, a word that all Zimbabwean kids would have heard on the daily from their parents as the final warning that the time for mischief (musikanzwa) is over. Lets just say, i didnt get the memo, i remember beaing a feral child, making noise or running around laughing were my favourite things to do and being mischievous was my lifes mission, Kwana may as well have been my nickname. As ive grown and begun cracking into some of the lessons my father left me to solve, i find myself reflecting on this word alot. 
i empathize with my younger self, a zimo boy living in the diaspora. I always wanted to bring joy, not realising that i was joy, and that the love i had in my love was unconditional, i used to think that hearing Kwana meant my parents were sick of hearing my voice, ive now come to learn that they were trying to tell me was that i was Enough, that i need not exert myself so much for anyones approval o acceptance. Begging me to bask in the love that they named me after.
This song is about reclaiming that word for myself, finally feeling like i’m enough, honouring my fathers lessons and doing it in the bouncy joyus way that only i can.
