1981 Eric Wagner - Rhapsody for Piano

The new (as of March 23rd) orchestral strings sound pack in Auxy 5.0.1 is taken for a test drive in this minimal/ambient piece.

Monitoring was primarily via Sennheiser HD-580 headphones.  Rendered on March 27th, this revision adds a 30-second intro.

Notable influences include Henryk Górecki, Arvo Pärt, Tangerine Dream, Spiritualized, and Amon Tobin.

Inspired by a fellow high-school graduate's invention of a two-piano-keyboard controller used to play two pianos via a pair of vorsetzers, this piece is a largely-single-velocity MIDI-based rhapsodic exploration of various musical ideas and methods.  The original included some non-piano elements, but Sam, my 17-month-old son, produced this version by letting me know all the parts he didn't like in the earlier version (starting with the non-piano parts), which I then removed.

Sdrawkcab form = Sequenced/composed starting from the end and working back to the beginning, then pruned/smoothed in the forward direction

This experimental piece started with a minor-ninth-prominent chord.  Thereafter, frequency sweeps at varying rates across different instruments form complex microtonal harmonic textures that converge on a Durufle-Requiem-esque ending, which is the beginning, since we're adhering to the "arrow of time" thing that supposedly defines music.  The original idea was to make some Shepard tones, but this was abandoned early on.
