I made a rubbish guitar tune on my four-track, so I played the tape backwards and it sounded miles better! Came home drunk one evening and played the tin whistle over it in one take, and bob's your uncle. A classic.

This might have actually been before Slow Step Dub on Fruity Loops. Was meant to have a rap over it, which I still remember the lyrics too, but never got around to recording. Didn't have a mic anyway.

Loved this tune when I made it. Was never happy about that bass though, which just sounded percussive. My sister said it sounded like frickin Ace of Base, which I guess it kind of does. Still cool in its own way though.

Made this one on a train using £1 headphones I bought. Hence the crap mixing. Don't know what that weird filter on the bass is, but I certainly overdid it. Whole tune is weird anyway, if slightly fun.

Baby Maker

I once interviewed the drummer for Finlay Quaye, while Finlay Quaye was in the other room trying to score with my girlfriend-at-the-time. The vocal sample is from that interview. The whistle was a clay whistle from who knows where?

Cuckoo Cocksure

Really liked this one at the time too. The drums were a mixture of hand drums, a kid's toy drum kit and a bendable lamp that I scratched with a stick.

A Penny for 'em (short)

Looped an Augustus Pablo backing and played my own melodica and guitar over it. Not sure about the wisdom of that decision. Odd in places but highly enjoyable I think.

Daman & Naff Natty - Money Is A Terrible Thing

Can't believe I almost left this beauty out. It should be down the bottom with my ancient four-track recordings. My mum brought me back a toy instrument from Egypt that smelt like camel shit. Two strings and a bow. It only worked a short while until the black crap had rubbed off the strings (probably camel shit). Anyway, I got this one tune out of it.
Other instruments include: ukulele banjo, ornamental bongos and melodica. All done in one take of each instrument as was normal for me back then.

The page is dumphole and repository for all my old tunes, weird and crap as they may be. Don't expect quality as a given, most of these tunes were made years and years ago, before I had an inkling of production, some on a four-track, some on a train with headphones I bought for £1.
