ZHLTRR001 - Aphasea - First Try

I recently upgraded my Korg Electribe 2s installing the free firmware Hacktribe that add some filters and oscillator of the Electribe 2 version, plus a serie of new oscillators, mostly FM, and some nice insert Fx like the resonant filters. In this mixtape i experimented with the new oscillator making all the basses / reeces and the pads / ambients of the melodic parts, for the drums i used the classic oscillators like sine for the bottom, noise for the transient and another noise with a little slowly attack envelope for the slappyness. I added my Korg Kaossilator in order to make movement between the parts, i used all the oscillators so the machine is a little glitchy. The Hacktribe updatemake the Electribe 2s a machine to another level!

New performance from the WFZ Project serie, i used my Korg Electribe 2s / Hacktribe (for the drums and distorted basses) and the Novation Circuit for arp and keys. About the Hacktribe i can say again that is a great upgrade, i made the drums sounds mainly using FM operators, trying to emulate the clanging percussive tones tipical of Sophie / PC Music productions, also the distorted basses are made in FM using the internal saturation and distorsion. The arpeggio is made with the great synthetizer of the Novation Circuit, a wavetable with a flexible matrix, i programmed it using his computer editor and programmed with the great pads / 2 octaves keyboard.

Just a little of fun with Korg Volca Drum and volca Keys experimenting with "Jump Mode" and nervous synth tweaking :D . I'm recently recording my jams in multitrack using the Allen & Heath Zedi 10fx that it's great for this kind of small setup. The recorded track are a little mixed in Ableton adding a little of eq, some reverbs and a light compression. Enjoy!

Another jam with Pajen Firmware on Korg Volca Sample. This upgrade mades the Samples really fun and i find the probability based sequencer really interesting. I loaded a bounch of chopped old school jungle breaks and Taiko Drums in order to get a Photek style touch, the Kaossilator add movement on some raw jungle beats. Enjoy!

The summer is coming so i want to make some outdoor videos. In this episode i'm trying a portable setup to use around, of course the Volcas fits perfectly to the project. Another outdoor jam, this time i used my Korg Volca Sample (with Pajen Firmware) and Volca Drum. For both devices sequences i used a lot the probability in order to create moving and evolving sequences, enriched by drums variations and glitches made with the Step Jump. I recorded in multi track using two different recorders: a Zoom H1on and a quite vintage Sony Minidisk, i captured the different sources witout sync then sinced on Ableton Live. Enjoy!

New jam with Elektron Model:Cycles, a powerful six tracks FM groobox ideal for some kind of deep and heavy bass music sonorities. In this collection of techno grooves i made different lead synth lines with pulsing kick and bass, using the long attack bass trick to simulate sidechaining. All the transition are enriched with the old but gold first generation Korg Kaossilator, a dynamic phrease synthetyzer that i use a lot as a FX and risers generator.

Time to make a jam with my skulls and Elektron Model:Cycles. I think that early 2010's underground dnb music was really intriguing and dark, perfect for a day like this one :D (also if not really an italian tradition). For this minimal jungle jam i was inspired by one of the track of Sabre - A Wandering Journal LP (Critical Music) an album that influenced me a lot as producer. 
I made all the sound and sequences with a entry level machine from Elektron, the FM based Model:Cycles... i like so much the music i made with this machine :D and it's the perfect pair with my self printed skull :D enjoy!

Last jam of 2023, i wanted to make some glitchy abstract dubstep stuff with my Elektron Model:Cycles, a powerful FM groovebox, trying to get different sounds. The MC have a delay that can be set to a very short time, this add different metallic harmonic and a transparence that fits perfectly with this kind of dubstep. Using different techniques like layering and a lot of preset locks i created a full arrangement. Enjoy!

As a first 2024 video i wanted to make something different mixing dawless music with AI generated videos. For the audio i used the Korg Volca Drum (for drums and basses) plugged into the digital multi FX Zoom B1on (with a custom FX chain) and the Korg Volca Sample - Pajen Firmware - for ambience and pads, also this one pluggedinto a digital multi FX the Zoom G1on. For the visuali generated some videos from prompt on Pika Labs, trying to create the sequence of an urban exploration from an abandoned house to a underground river. I mixed the AI generated images with a real life recordings so this is the result... enjoy!

New jam with my Korg Electribe 2s with the Hacktribe firmware. A lot of new gears are coming and all looks attractive :D but i think i have a little more to do with my old gears so i decided to sample some Elektron Model Cycles FM waveforms (just an E long note directly into the Electribe Line In) in order to use the ES filters and FX with more rich and complex oscillators than the internal. The result is a dark drum and bass groove with growling basses made with both synth and samples, the Kaossilator as usual add e little of spice to the mix. Enjoy!

Another axperiment with AI (Pika Labs) and grooveboxes, this time with one of my favourite hacked instrument: the Korg Electribe 2s Hacktribe. I programmed 5 different 140 / dubstep / future garage beats using internal synth and the onboard sampler. I recorded the simple vocals using a simple SM 58 plugged into the machine, all the synth sound are processed with insert FX and Master FX, the Hacktribe version provide a bounch of extra Ins. As usual i used the Korg Kaossilator for xtra moving Fx. Enjoy!

New jam with Elektron Model:Cycles, a really powerful FM synth groovebox with lot of hidden tricky geeky features that blow my mind every time :D
After the metallic and musical delay used on basslines i made some experiments with track multipliers: as everyone know the MC is based on step sequencing, so all the motion recordings have a standard definition of 16 steps with no smooth motion options but... with the track multiplier you can easily double (or more... 2000k!) the definition of your grid and get smooth automations. The lenght become shorter but with trigger conditions and probability you can have also longer patterns. I made a Neurofunk Drum and Bass tune to test all these modulation possibilities, i used my beloved Korg Kaossilator for add Fx and movements to the arrangement. Enjoy!

in this Dark Ambient Jam i used two Volcas processed with Zoom digital multi FX. With the Korg Volca Drum i programmed a glitchy drums and bass sequence (using probability and layering bass tones with noises) and i plugged into the Zoom B1on multi FX where i used a custom chain with compressor / overdrive / short reverb that push the sound (expecially low frequencies) add armonics with a light distorsion and spazialize with the stereo Plate reverb. With Volca Keys i made a dark / spooky pad using the poly osc and plugged into the Zoom G1on (this one with another custom chain with Chorus / Particle Reverb / Spring Reverb) and tweaked with a really fast LFO on pitch and filter that add a grainy texture to the Keys sounds. I added some images that i filmed during the 2023 forest wildfire in north Italy for a visual addition to this cinematic jam. Enjoy!

Again i used Elektron Model Cycles and it's powerful sequencer to create a complete arrangement with differents moods and sounds, from delicate and warm pads to aggressive distorted basses. I'm searching for new trick: i laready used a really short delay to emulate spread / unison, doubled pattern play rate to get smoother automations and various creative use of LFO... anyone know other ways to get different sounds? Dark Ambient jam with Korg Volca Beats processed with several pedal FX: I used only the analog voices (kick, toms and snare), distorted a little with a vintage Boss Hyper Metal, compressed and filtered with a custom FX chain on the Zoom G1on then "virtualized" with an old Viscount GammaVerb (on the send of the small mixer). I added a footage of a recent exploration of the scary attic of a 1850  Italian residential palace. Enjoy!

Strong 80s vibes for this Electro Funk Jam. I programmed a 808 sounding kit on Volca Drum, trying to emulate the same inconic synthesized sounds, and synced with a vintage BOSS Dr 220A drum machine from 1985 with a limited but iconinc set of 80s samples. I added also a Viscount Gammaverb and a small mixer imagining a studio session in the 80s. Enjoy!

New UKG / 2Step jam with my hacked Korg Volca Sample with Pajen Firmware.
The "Pajen" firmware adds some interesting funtionalities like Bar Filters (permits to play a single pattern on a longer cycle, for example every 2 or 4 bars) that allow to make longer sequences or the "Probability" (you can add to every step a value from 0 to 100 that represent the probability of a note to be played) that permits to create variations and a semi-generative approach to the sequences. This last function is the one i used the most in this 2Step / Uk Garage jam, expecially on drums. All the sounds are loaded by me , all the basses and some drums are synthetized from scratch using basic waveforms, the pads or melodic sounds are made with basic waves and single note flutes / winds / voices samples. After one year i made another axperiment with AI videos (Minimax) and grooveboxes, again this time with one of my favourite hacked instrument: the Korg Electribe 2s Hacktribe. I programmed 5 different 140 / UKG / 2Step / Future Garage beats using internal synth and the onboard sampler. For the basslines i create some 3 layers bass sound design reminescent of 2000s reece bass tecnique (splitting a saw in sub, mid and hi and using internal filters, flanger/phaser and LFO to add movement to every layers). All the synth sound are processed with insert FX and Master FX, the Hacktribe version provide a bounch of extra Ins. As usual i used the Korg Kaossilator for extra moving Fx. 
About the visual: i create a sequence of clips with Minimax in order to create a complete immersion to the music across an imaginary world. Enjoy!

New Dark Experimental Jam with Korg volca Drum, Monotron and Zoom B1on multi FX.
I think that the sequencer of Korg Volca Drum is the best of the Volca serie, but have a big limitation: the pattern lenght! Of course you can chain different patterns but this exclude the use of mute and other functions. I seen a lot of videos with ambient sequences mad a really slow tempo so i tried to double the lenght of the patterns setting 86 bpm (instead of 172) and got 16th notes using the "slice" function on bpth drums and synths. I also added a digital multi FX (the Zoom B1on) with a custom chain with compressor, a little of distortion, an EQ and at the end a Plate Reverb. The sound it's more dirty and deep with a presence ideal for live performances. For FX and transitions i used the Korg Monotron and added a little of reverb and delay from the mixer (the session is recorded in muti-track). Enjoy!!

Time to get some basslines from my Control Synthesis Deep Bass Nine, an analog bassline synthesizer from 1994. It comes with a single oscillator switchable between saw, square, and none (for audio input processing) and a few basic controls like tuning, cutoff, resonance, filter envelope, decay, accent, and volume.
Made as a clone of the TB-303, it fails to emulate the iconic synth but has its own character, with deep basses and squelchy resonance. I created some classic bassline sequences with the Novation Circuit (where velocity engages a filter opening in the Deep Bass Nine), a lead line using the internal synth (with a custom preset), and used the four drum parts to control the Nord Drum.
The result is a techno tune with a pulsing bassline and a wannabe acid flavor. :D Enjoy!
