Today for the Cover Party I'm gonna throw a serious curve ball. As you guys might know, I don't just write songs for W!W!, and recently I had the opportunity to write with my friends Chris and Jon Paul of the band Basic Vacation﻿. One of the songs we wrote together, called "I Believe" is being released worldwide today, so I thought I'd share that. I'm really proud of the song, and I think both the song and this band are gonna be huge. Obviously since the song is being released today I can't give away the downloads of it, but I'll include the link below where you can get it on iTunes. Here's a new cover for you guys. It's a song called 'Home Again' by Michael Kiwanuka. Michael's EP is available through a great UK label called Communion. If that label is familiar to you it might be because they released an EP for To Kill a King, who toured with us in the UK last fall.

I'm gonna leak some new original material to you guys as soon as I can. It's been so long since we've released anything I want to be really careful about what original material you hear next. If you know our last album, you know it covers a lot of ground. If I had leaked 'Got It All Wrong' then people might have assumed I was making an electronic album, or "Dance So Good" maybe they would expect a solo album. I'll find a way around this, and get you some new material as soon as possible, but in the meantime, I'm gonna do some more covers for you. Trust that I have a new album written, so now we're headed to the studio. Hopefully in the next month we can announce a producer, and maybe even a working title.

I love and appreciate how loyal you guys are and have always been. I promise to keep you all up to date in the next few months as things move forward.

Call Your Boyfriend (Robyn Cover)

I'm so pleased with this cover of this song. Everyone has seen (or should see if they haven't yet) the music video with the hopping people, and the crazy high falsetto voice. What I didn't remember from that video was the lyrics. It's such a beautiful painting of a poor guy that's just been crushed by some woman. Or maybe some women. I worked on this one for a few hours, and I have to admit it was the most fun I've had in the studio for sometime. I used some super sick low bass sounds, so I'd recommend listening to this one with some good speakers or headphones if you can.

She Drives Me Crazy (Fine Young Cannibals Cover)

Wait a minute? He's covered Bieber, Robyn, AND NOW RIHANNA?!?!??!

That's right. I started it just as something fun to mess around with and four hours later, emerged from an unexpectedly wonderful and deeply cathartic trance. I can't believe how beautiful this song is. It makes me want to cry. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I've enjoyed recording it.

I thought Friday I'm in love would be the perfect track to end our cover week and a half. Hope you guys like it! If you're not familiar with the original, definitely look up the video. It's the best party ever.
I want to dedicate our final cover to Katharina Lange. She's last month's Team Wakey contest winner. If you guys aren't familiar with Team Wakey, it's a great way to be more involved in what we do. We Found Love Karaoke (Rihanna Ft Calvin Harris Cover) Louder

I love this cover. I've played it more live than most songs I've actually written. I love the moment, somewhere about three lines in, when the audience figures out what I'm playing and starts to cheer. A little trivia, the song was originally written and performed by Robert Hazard, but it was Cindy Lauper's cover that made the song famous. A few years after we released this I met a friend of Hazard's in a bar in Philly. He told me that Robert had passed a few years before, but it was nice to hear his friend's song the way it was intended to be sung. Still gives me chill bumps to think about.

Wakey!Wakey! Wednesdays 7: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun [Cyndi Lauper Cover]

Dave Grohl is possibly the coolest musician alive. From drummer in Nirvana, to the Foo Fighters, and everything between, it's all magic. I love his acoustic version of this song, so I thought I'd try it on piano. I always get requests for it live. It's a bear to execute on the piano, but maybe one of these days I'll work it up before a tour. It's just so beautiful. "The only thing I'll ever ask of you... You've got to promise not to stop when I say when." Hope you enjoy!

Wakey!Wakey! Wednesdays 10: Everlong [Foo Fighters Cover]

I used to play with a guitar player in an old band that would say, be careful what you write, because you never know which song is gonna be the one you end up singing every night for the rest of your life. I guess I'm lucky that one of those songs has turned out to be War Sweater. I love seeing audiences react to this song, especially when they aren't as familiar with our music. We recorded this song with Chris Cubeta, and it turned out to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. We were so happy with this track, he ended up producing our first full length album, 'Almost Everything' as well.

War Sweater EP 1: War Sweater

It was cool to see today that Brooklyn was everyone's favorite track off the War Sweater EP, because I've always loved that song so much. I still remember exactly where I was when I wrote it. There was a fire escape on the other side of a window that was sealed shut. How deep is that? That day feels like a lifetime ago now. Most nights on tour at soundtrack when we check vocals I sing that chorus. And no matter where in the world we are that day, I picture my apartment back home in Brooklyn, and think how lucky I am to have come so far.

Brooklyn/Manhattan 1: Brooklyn (Acoustic Version)

I always have loved this song. When we recorded it for the album I'd literally finished it the night before, and we hadn't figured out the form or anything. It became this nice quiet emotional moment that really served it's place in the middle of the album. That being said, for the sake of the song as a stand alone moment, we wanted to have a recording of a well structured full band version. So we called up Chris Cubeta, and went back in at Galuminum Foil Studios to make this version. It's really fun to play live, because when we get to the ending of the full band version, a lot of our audiences just keep singing. This happened once or twice before the band just automatically jumped in for a refrain. I think it was Matt Racher, our UK drummer that brought us all back in for the first time. Now when it happens at shows, we let the audience sing it a few times, then all start playing again and have a sing along refrain. It always makes me really happy to share that truly organic moment with the crowd and the band.

Dance So Good single 1: Dance So Good (Full Band Version)

Tanya and I recorded this live at a radio station in Hamburg, Germany. As I type these words it occurs to me how cool my life has been for the past few years. I have so much to be grateful for. This is a cover of a song by a band called Beach House. I remember when I heard it being extremely moved, because it's such a wonderful description of how it feels to be in love. "Anywhere we run, you run before us. Black and white horse arching among us." Just stunning. I'd highly recommend you grab their album "Teen Dream".

Darkest Night

This is a song by Sufjan Stevens that we recorded for a charity compilation. I think it's Tanya's favorite thing we ever recorded. Every time I've worked in a recording studio I've learned so much. This was a great opportunity to work with synths. I kept sending it to the label and they kept complaining that the one high synth was too piercing and almost painful to the ear. I kept telling them that I'd done that on purpose because the song was a reflection of a painful melody. In hindsight we probably could have toned it down a little, but I still love the recording.
