December is written and lead by multi-instrumentalist, Jeff Smith. Thus, it marks a stylistic departure from the band’s orchestral origins, featuring a minimalistic overture that eases into a delicate piano riff in the minor key. 

Layered with ethereal female harmonies including singer/songwriter Milly Hirst, Jeff’s unaffected vocals cut deep into the marrow, sublime in their simplicity. December ascends through the angular drums of latest band member, Alex Mackenzie - whose trip-hop beat accents the trumpet / violin contrapuntal melodies into a maudlin, macabre Mariachi march.

''Kat Frankie spent her youth in the sunburnt suburbs of Sydney, scribing countless songs in her parents' sweltering attic. She moved to Berlin in December 2004, where she is known for her passionate, dynamic and riveting live shows. Kat performs both solo and with band; both incarnations feature powerful arrangements that give space to her incredible voice; reaching from tender, sparse melancholy to dramatic, soaring aggression.
Kat's debut album, "Pocketknife" was released in Australia in September 2007, and in Germany January 2008, and has been highly praised in both countries. Kat has also released an EP titled "outside.now." and appears on several independent compilations from Australia and Germany.
Kat also features in BerlinSong, a music documentary made by Uli Schueppel about songwriters in Berlin. The film was selected to premiere at the 2007 Berlinale Film Festival.
