The prolific Jonny Dillon aka Automatic Tasty from Wicklow, Ireland, should be familiar to most with an interest in acid inspired electronic music. 15 years of releases on such luminary labels as Acid Waxa, Further Electronix, Lunar Disko, Wrong Island and CPU, his debut release on Winthorpe is an 8 track LP of stylish and subtle machine braindance titled "One Foot in the Rave".

The LP is a vibrant collection of tracks that showcase Jonny's signature styles - melodic melancholic acid jams, bleepy funk and warm analog electronics. Suitable for the stero or the soundsystem, from the upfront bounce of "The Apocalypse is Now" and "Raymond Tuesday's Big Day Out" to the shimmering reverb of "Starry Night" and birdsong of "Ringfort" we're in familiar Tasty psychedelic terrain.

According to the man himself "What to say about this record? I don’t really know and it hardly matters. I wrote them on different bits of gear; ye olde faithful Roland SH101, my MC202 (pencil and paper derigeur), a battered x0xb0x 1.0 (thx Daniel!), a beloved Yamaha CS-5, a similarly beloved Roland SH5, a truly hammered Juno106, a Roland JX3P, a Nord something or other, an MPC2500, my TR606, and a Vermona DRM1 MKII being sequenced via a bedraggled TR626. Also Jay’s TR808 is on there (thx Jay!) and a TR8 being squashed through a Mutronics Mutator (wheee Damo!) and a Zoom H4n recorder. I edited them on a dilapidated laptop, with no headphones or monitors, steering by the tiny speakers on the computer and playing them in my car, twiddling the mix as I went. But these are frivolous and unimportant details. All that matters is that these songs were made out of love. Cheerio, Jonny.

Revealed on COD3 QR, Laurent Garnier's label, the French producer Voltaire aims to become a key figure in the renewal of French electronic music with an album in 2025 entitled "Echoes". Ahead of its release "[QR]D.292.VOL1.24" presents 3 of its tracks.

Voltaire doesn't belong to the serail, the preferential circuits of the electro universe: he's an artist who built his career through passion, after electronic music fell into his lap somewhat by chance. Coming from a region far from the preferred circuits of the electro world, he cultivated his predispositions in autarky. Very quickly, the musician took advantage of his training in the audio-visual industry (where he worked as a sound recordist and mixer for cinema, advertising and haute couture) to raise the artistic and technical quality of his productions to a very high level.

Voltaire uses his perfectionist approach to music to create a richly emotional eclecticism, inspired by reminiscences of the historical signatures of electronic music, from the pioneers of Detroit to the glorious electro decades of the 2000s and 2010s. Between nostalgia and the search for new forms of contemporary electro, which must reconcile efficiency and inspiration: "I love all facets of electronic music and I want to remain open to all influences. This approach also allows me to avoid formatting my music".

Today Voltaire is a COD3 QR regular: he has remixed "Tales from the Real World" from Laurent Garnier's latest album, had several vinyl and digital releases and has been in the line-up of several events with the godfather of French techno, with whom a relationship of loyalty and trust has been firmly established. His forthcoming releases complete this first sequence and open up a new one: with his powerful reminiscences of techno, house and electro from 2000 and 2010, Voltaire has established himself as the newcomer to watch on a Frenchy techno in a full renewal. This album dematerialises the concept of minimal composition. It explores complex minimalism, where purity is not presented simplistically. Instead, it reveals a highly intricate conglomeration of sounds, almost entirely overshadowed by a monotonous sound. The aim is to evoke the question: is this being heard, or imagined? A piece of art should have the capacity to immerse the listener in an idea, disconnecting them from reality and offering a new perspective, which leads to heightened sensitivity. Sensibility is key for peace and equality.

Sonically, the album consists of three compositions built upon variations of a single sustained note. The first piece distorts the note using analogue tools. A multilayered soundscape distilling into singularity. The concept unfolds as the pieces evolve. The second piece transforms the core sound into MIDI, manipulates it through digital sounds that break and leap. The third piece embodies the 'barroquismo' of the concept, with the sound now stylised to the point where it becomes playful, moving from heaven to hell. There is room for a recycled piece: death—a son or perhaps a daughter—emerging as a repetitive trumpet loop.

The title, Stillness in which Movement takes place takes inspiration from the words of Jean Miró.

First detected in the 1950s, Quasars remained a mystery for years with the massive amount of energy seeming to come from a very small area of space. Over time, astrophysicists theorised and proved that these celestial objects are black holes forming the centres of galaxies.

For the latest Micron Audio release, 6SISS creates a sonic exploration of the many aspects of these gigantic cosmological bodies resulting in a collection of tracks that reflect their density, power, and luminosity. 

Each of the four tracks, QUASAR I-IV, represents a different phase of interaction with a quasar's energy, from initial observation to a final, euphoric absorption into the quasar's core: fizzing and enigmatic synths suggest the radio waves that travelled for thousands of years before being detected, while other bassier sounds bring to mind the vast gravitational pull of galactic centres, slowly attracting stars and planets alike towards them. 

As with all Micron Audio releases, QUASAR reveals a deep appreciation of scientific discovery and knowledge. Whilst avoiding retro-futuristic cliché, the imaginative abstract storytelling genre of electro is perfectly represented in this collection, in which 6SISS yet again emits his own densely packed work to emanate across the universe with a bold radiant energy.
