Last fall, Dapayk & Padberg released "Smoke", their most sinister, most atmospheric and most peculiar album to date. Just in time for the upcoming summer season the Berlin-based electronica duo and notable artists from the Mo's Ferry label ask for the dance floor again playing their "Smoke Family Remixes".
Back and forth from the floor to the lounge to the floor: After having presented their fourth album in a darker and more reflective tone, singer Eva Padberg and musician / producer Niklas Worgt let the sun shine once again! Dapayk & Padberg asked their "family acts" to remix this album, which is a chamber-electro-mix full of dubstep structures, catchy pop elements, classical strings and intimate singer-songwriter elements. The result is "Smoke Family Remix", an airy, chilly, highly danceable club makeover for the upcoming summer season!
Experimental remixes and reworks belong to Dapayk's tradition. After the original versions have been tuned to achieving maximum club compatibility during their live performances, now the official remix collection follows. "I think the basic colour of our last album was a little bit too dark for many listeners. So we now present the remixes with a more accessible touch", says D&P Mastermind Niklas Worgt. On "Smoke Family Remixes" Dapayk & Padberg selected DJs and musicians from the small but fine Mo's Ferry label and asked for a reinterpretation of their last longplayer - with some surprising results.
Douglas Greed transformed the dreamy-supernatural "Dance In Your Flame" into a flowing, slightly rough, but also light ambient track. The dub / techhouse piece "Gingembre" got a treatment by Sebastian Russell with a new melody and new sampling elements. The orchestral "Silent Fireworks" wears in Marek Hemmann's remix a groovy club outfit. "We are extremely pleased to work with all these artists and to have them on our album", Niklas Worgt continues. "They all represent the signature sound of Mo's Ferry, which we intend to expand this year even further. A sound, somewhere between techhouse and rather more experimental stuff. It was very exciting for us to see how other artists interpret and modify our tracks. Eva and I were sometimes extremely surprised in what direction the originals were taken. There are ideas we would never have dreamt of. But that's the point eventually: To emphasize new and different facets. It's all about interaction with others, to be inspired and to collect new influences. It is simply an incredibly great thing to see how for example Darlyn Vlys made a true club hammer remix out of a melancholic original track like 'No Words'!"
So much is revealed: This autumn there will be a sequel to "Smoke - Remixes"!

On the A side we find “Who’s Future”. Full of bubbling elastic bass and deep chord swells, it’s a laid back affair with a snappy groove to push it along. 

On the flip is “Across the Nation”, a stripped out and uptempo electro jam with crisp breaks and gated pads. All the elements mingle together to create a thick bed of future funk.

About the song :
chose to use the sound of a Loon for this song because before I was able to support myself fully as a music artist, I worked for many summers as a tree planter doing reforestation in Canada. The call of the loon is a very signature thumb print in the soundscape in many forests in Canada, I would hear their calls echoing through the trees of the forests and over the open water of lakes at sunset and through the night. I always found the sound of their calls very interesting, it's mysterious, sometimes haunting, and at the same time brings me deep inner peace. The tribal vocal sample in the song is a recording that my professor from Audio Engineering school made himself while he was living with one of the northern native tribes in Ontario, which brings another layer of connection to the land, because for those people everything in nature is scared. Working in reforestation, I was exposed first hand to the reality of what the forestry industry does to our land, how much they take without care for the wildlife. The Loon, as well as many other animals have their ecosystems and homes destroyed or put in danger every year because of deforestation, not only in Canada but around the world. My intention with this song is to bring awareness and connection to nature to the listeners, and I hope that people will have more consciousness in their consumption of not only products made from trees but everything they use in their lives, because everything is connected!

"La Tierra Que Vive Adentro" - J.Pool & Janax Pacha Live Set @Tree House Tulum 2021

Walker Barnard grew up on an ashram outside the American mainstream, listening to Balinese monkey chants, classical Indian music and The Beatles White Album. His first experience of the funk came early on when his father, who was making music videos for Motown, brought him to hang on the set of the shoot for Rick James's Super Freak video.
In the early nineties, Walker started playing bass in a funk-rock band called Mobius Trip. The band recorded in Los Angeles with the Dust Brothers of Paul’s Boutique fame and then with Beastie Boys keyboardist Mark Nishita. Walker threw down on a range of projects —Including a Lemmy remix, and Vince Neil's solo record. From there Walker's journeys led him to Santa Fe, New Mexico where he continued to hone his bass playing and recording chops. It was there that Walker had his warehouse party dance floor awakening-- and at that moment he began to transpose his live music experience onto the grids of house and techno.
Not long after the awakening, while living in a teepee outside Santa Fe, Walker got a call from a friend in NYC who was looking for a producer/engineer to come work at a downtown hip hop studio. He thought that sounded pretty good, so with fifty dollars in his pocket, he boarded a plane bound for New York. Walker spent the next two years at the epicenter of underground hip hop, working with a long list of artists such as Company Flow, Saul Williams, Mike Ladd, Rob Sonic, Mos Def, Cannibal Ox and countless others.
During this time, Walker also worked closely with producer and engineer Mike "Tweakin" Rogers, who engineered Deee-Lite's first record, as well as countless classic Chicago and New York house releases. He collaborated on a string of releases with Jaymz Nylon for labels such as Nitegrooves and Dirty Loop/3 to 5, and produced a track for Saul Williams' Big Dada release, "1972." And when he wasn't in the studio, he was playing bass and live electronics in lofts parties, warehouses, bars and clubs all over the New York and the East Coast.
However, by 2000 Walker began seriously longing for the open skies and high mountains of New Mexico and so moved back to Santa Fe, where he began the serious study of recording and mixing music. In 2003 he designed and opened his own studio to facilitate the production philosophy he had developed through his previous decade of experience and during the next five years he produced and engineered numerous records, including the 2006 Grammy winning album "Sacred Ground".
Walker’s studio also became the home base for the small but incredibly fertile dance music scene in Santa Fe. Along with his partner, Sylvie Forêt and a family of like-minded musicos, Walker threw epic open air parties in exotic locations, inviting artists such as Bruno Pronsato, Bodycode aka Portable, Lee Curtiss, and Mikael Stavöstrand.
Walker has been a valued member of the Berlin scene since 2008 - his regular appearances around venues such as Club der Visionäre, Watergate, Wilde Renate, Chalet or Katerholzig soon winning him a reputation as a mastermind of the dancefloor. Nowadays, you can increasingly find Walker slinking around various musical extravaganzas worldwide. Look for his tunes on labels like Private Gold, Vakant, Serialism, Dumb Unit, and Jack Off.
