In cultural terms, the 1980s was the period in which synthesizers, pinball machines, robotics, computers, software, hardware, and society merged at a global scale to form the origin of the electronic music culture the world knows today. 
It led to a dance phenomenon unlike anything before... the Synthball. This is a song capturing the genesis of that moment.

Drawing on themes from my PhD research, "Netscape: Cities and Global Corporate Networks" https://repub.eur.nl/pub/16013/ , the song "Network Inequality" emerges as a powerful sonic exploration of the disparities within global economic systems. The track uses an AI voice as a detached narrator, delivering terms like "asymmetric system," "network of a network," and "inequality of the economic network," among others. These terms are interspersed with graph theory measures such as "indegree," "outdegree," and "centrality," effectively mapping the intricate flows of capital and power as if in real time.

The song's progression mirrors the ebb and flow of financial markets, with the music intensifying to represent the volatile dynamics of economic systems. A poignant moment arrives during the bridge when a deep male voice cuts through the mix, intoning "Babylon lovers are Babylon lovers"—a direct invocation of the Rastafarian concept of Babylon. This oppressive system symbolizes economic exploitation and inequality, contrasting starkly with the cold, mechanical voice of the AI. This human element, raw and soulful, underscores the human cost hidden beneath economic abstractions.

Female voices whisper chants that grow increasingly louder and impassioned, intertwining with the AI’s stark recitations. The culmination is a crescendo where detached technological articulations and defiant human responses clash, plunging the listener into the chaotic soundscape that represents the network itself.

Beyond its lyrical depth, "Network Inequality" is a testament to the innovation in contemporary electronic music, blending psytrance, experimental electronic, retrosynth, and nudisco. The track channels the energetic, modernized psytrance reminiscent of Vini Vici, enriched by the melodic layers akin to Astrix, and pulsates with a rhythmic base that propels it forward. Cosmic synths and expansive soundscapes, influenced by Electric Universe, give the track a celestial quality.

Retrosynth elements recall the nostalgic vibes of Klopfgeister, merging a retro aesthetic with modern sensibilities. The inclusion of nudisco adds a groovy, danceable dimension that mirrors the lighter, playful elements found in Neelix’s genre-blending productions. "Network Inequality" is not just a musical piece but a narrative collage, paying homage to avant-garde influences like Shpongle and Ritmo, who push the boundaries of their genres.

This track is not merely a collection of influences but a cohesive narrative that challenges listeners to question the underpinnings of our global economy. It is a compelling encounter for both psytrance aficionados and those new to the genre, drawn by its eclectic and innovative appeal. The repeating mantra, "Babylon lovers, are Babylon lovers," inspired by The Slits’ "Love Und Romance," serves as a resonant reminder of the ongoing struggle against systemic economic inequalities.

The song Void describes life and death as eternal parts of a cosmic symphony, where the universe is understood as a continuum of shifting sonic frequencies, rather than physical matter. The track describes reality as an intricate interplay of non-random vibrations, where dissonant noise and organized harmonies generate the laws of nature, particles, and waves. These frequencies continuously entangle, creating and reshaping the universe, while death represents the absence of frequency—a state of complete silence. The song suggests that existence is a cosmic orchestration, where everything is born from the interaction of these frequencies. Written for my late father George Wall, a physicist.

From these entanglements, existence is protected from the void, where death is the absence of all frequencies, a perpetual silence where creative symphonies cannot be composed nor performed.
