For those who caught Furness' Four 4 The Floor EP, and are familiar with his work, this release is further evidence of how much of a fledgling purveyor of deep grooves and heavy-hitting rhythms Furness is. Title track Gone Fishing utilises string keys as the foundation of the track and marries the emotive, elongated synths with a dubby bassline and quick hitting snares. Acropolis is tougher, centering distorted pads against intermittent piano chords, muffled vocal grabs and a deep, cosmic bassline. Red808 is a no-nonsense roller, with its slick snare and hi-hat/hand-clap tandem working superbly against the climbing synths. Blackstar adopts a similar framework to Acropolis, wrapping up the EP in style with its similarly lo-fi, distorted percussion charged against rapturous chords taking the track into further sonic terrain.

Back in February 2013, shortly after their impressive first release as a label, Music Is Love launched a double VA entitled Lovebox: an 8 track double-vinyl release that included tracks from 8 talented up-and-coming producers on their roster. By innovatively previewing the producers in this way, the label laid the foundations for what listeners could expect for each artists' subsequent EPs. The artists who released on it were not hyped up flavours of the month, but rather emerging talents who sat perfectly with the label's musical ethos - quality and original underground house with a contemporary, dynamic feel. Since the VA, the label have gone from strength to strength and have firmly established themselves as one of the most brightest house labels around in the UK.
 
Just over a year later and following in the success of its predecessor, MIL return with their second VA and with that, a chance for listeners to hear the new additions they've acquired, in addition to some already known faces.

The difference in approach and outcome from each artist results in yet another highly impressive outcome, with 8 high grade tracks that show another side to Music Is Love. The sounds are tougher and the mood is darker, but the premise of the whole MIL concept remains more apparent than ever with this release: sourcing fresh underground talent, curating original electronic music and evolving artists already on the roster.

The next record from the bright young NDV stable comes from a couple of outrageously talented folk by the name of Chris Woodward (Buzzinfly) and Antanas Antanelis. This is the first record from these guys and they're no novices. This crafted and heavy hitting slice of house is a perfect fit for the NDV mould. The Magnificent Afrikaan Donce EP is full of chunky house tones, shades of MPC, hip hop and sample based house along with a tougher edge.

These guys have a lot of experience releasing music under alternative monikers for labels like Drumpoet Community, Buzzin Fly and others, but it's NDV who get the courtesy of presenting their first offering as the duo Chris & Antanas.

To top it off, this EP has 2 remixes which don't mess about. Both of these blew us away, it is safe to say this whole record came together easily. First up we have the man, the legend........ MR G!! Fresh off the back of a new album and with plenty of fuel still in the tank, Mr G picks up the pace and applies his trademark rolling housey/techno groove to some thick and moody pads. He brings out a pure evolving feeling with this super clean re-cut.

The icing on this already delightful cake comes from Manchester's man of the moment - Oli Furness. A good friend and the fearless leader of Music Is love and MIL. He is on red hot form at the moment and flips the B side with some absolutely funkadelic swagger and jazz-tastic remoulding of the original....we're marking this remix as his finest work yet.

Fresh from the new and note-worthy Axe on Wax stable, this Various Artists EP has a bit of bite. 
AOW has been turning heads with previous releases - from the likes of Rhythm Operator - they have been pushing that chunky and powerful house sound that's meant to keep you dancing well into the small hours, their music is a mixture of the raw and physical with the deep and texturally interesting.

A1. Cera Alba - Jux
First on the record we have a low-slung groove, with some divine moving pads. Cera Alba's "Jux" track features all you would expect from an AOW record with heavy industrial sounds set against the backdrop of a dream-like chord sequence, before veering off and taking things into tougher terrain. Cera Alba is a fast rising talent and one to keep your eye on.

A2. Jux - Oli Furness Remix
Next on this EP we have the prolific Oli Furness. A man who is in growing demand and Oli doesn't disappoint. He steps up with a remix of Cera's original, taking things into heavier territory - as he so often does - and with his usual flair for the dramatic. Heavy kicks and snappy snares pave the way as a slow filtered loop rises to reveal his trademark rolling bass. As a resident at Sankey's in Manchester it is no surprise much of this man's work is designed to put a big system to the test. Nice use of the original shot sound frantically dancing around keeps this remix aimed firmly at keeping the floor moving and grooving.

B1. Rosenhaft - Unplugged Vibez
If the A1 was the beauty on this EP, this track is the beast. Quick to start and relentless in energy. Think early mornings with Kerry - with a very danceable walking bass line keeping pace for you alongside crisp 909 rides keeping you company and dictating the groove. This one is all about its original dusty feel, keeping things steady whilst enhancing the sound as it progresses. Even with a distinctly familiar sounding palette the drum programming and arrangement keep this track from ever sounding too comfortable and certainly keep the listener wanting more.

B2. Unplugged Vibez - Kindimmer's Zen Remix
Rounding off the EP - Kindimmer keeps the dusty undertone of Rosenhafts original, coupling hi-pitched ethereal sounds amongst his Sonics. This track is more about balance and is most cleverly done, with subtle changes and crafted rhythms. The build of tension is subtle but is enough to keep listeners focused as he creates a beautiful soundscape laid down with truly whole beats. This will be a firm favourite for DJ's who like to dig deeper.

London’s DEXT Recordings continue to strengthen their catalogue adding to originals and remixes from Dubspeeka & Visionz, Komon & Appleblim and Bodyjack with their latest offering from the Manchester based Oli Furness backed up by Clone mainstay Alden Tyrell. This, the third release up on DEXT carries the same raw brawn as its predecessors and is a rattling meld of Jungle, UK Techno and House. 

Throughout his previous releases on NDV, Morris Audio and his own Music Is Love imprint, Oli Furness has astutely touched many bases whilst drawing for the tape driven kicks, nifty sampling and intricate drum work that have been his calling card since the off. His ‘Decisions’ EP brings these tools together and opens with the title track that drives a thunderous kick under crunching stabs and a starkly contrasting vocal sample. ‘Jungle Book’ then sets a hefty break tumbling towards the introduction of a thick, flexing sub and bubbling synth patterns. 

Next up, Dutch master Alden Tyrell adds to a catalogue that reaches right back to 1999 and weighs in with a stripped and burly revision of ‘Decisions’. Powerful analogue hats are set crashing over a concrete kick and cavernous stabs before ‘Let It Go’ snowballs behind a classic break that gathers a jagged synth pattern and 90’s vocal samples that are sure to send the floor into rapture.
