"Shushiki" at its origin is an Armenian folk dance tune from Vagharshapat collected and arranged for piano by Komitas (real name Soghomon Soghomonian; 1869-1935), Armenian priest, composer, choir conductor, vocalist, a pioneer of ethnomusicology, musicologist, music pedagogue. He was a victim of the Armenian Genocide officially started on April 24, 1915.

This is a transcription for string quartet by Sargis Aslamazyan played by the Komitas Quartet founded in November 1924 by four Armenian music students of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Here the performers are: Avet Gabrielyan (1st violin), Nikita Balabanyan (2nd violin), Michael Teryan (viola), Sargis Aslamazyan (cello). Recorded sometime between 1938 and 1947.
