Music has been a part of Walter Jones’ life since he was a boy. Born into a musical family, he acquired a taste for producing and recording music at an early age.
Started playing around with reel and cassette tape machines at 5 years old. Collecting records in 1978, and 12-inch singles in 1982.
Started going to clubs in 1984, around the time he started making dance music “pause button” mixed tapes for friends in High School, and selling them when they became popular.
Was a fill in radio DJ on the college radio station 91.1 KLSU-FM in Baton Rouge, LA in 1987. He also made his first music recordings with Felix Poel under the name Spidermilk around that time, experimenting with adventurous composing and recording procedures.
Started to DJ in 1992 when he moved to Dallas. His first gig was at the famous Dallas club, The Aqua Lounge. From there moved on to play the warehouse party scene at some of the more well known parties and clubs in Dallas, TX, including the legendary 2826 Main. He started professionally producing music at that time.
In the summer of 1994, he threw some of the biggest parties in Dallas while living at the warehouse (Industrial St.) where he threw them.
In 1995 until 2005, he moved to New Orleans to complete his studies and landed gigs at various clubs and parties there, including the Frenchman House and State Palace rave parties.
Made his first commercial release on the Los Angeles imprint, Westbound Records, in 2003, and featured a remix by Maurice Fulton. It made “Pick of the Month” by URB Magazine in March of that year.
Released a project every year on various labels that included Cisco, Westbound, Supersoul, and DFA.
DJ in various locations, including New Orleans, Dallas, , Chicago, San Francisco, New York, and Boston. On the same bill with DJs such as Josh Wink, Derrick Carter, Glenn Underground, Jazz and Groove, JT Donaldson, and recently successfully filled in for Nicky Siano when he couldn’t make it to Austin.

Walter Merlin Jones (not to be confused with Walt J from Detroit on Dow Records) has been composing music since 1977, and editing mixes since 1983. He has worked with various artists with their music for the past 25 years. When he started recording his own music, he released his first record in 2003. He has been on various labels such as DFA, Westbound, Supersoul, Cisco/Stevier, HAKT, Permanent Vacation, Under the Shade, etc.
