Hyperdub come wickedly fresh with the 4-track debut of Grimy House mutations by 20-year old Mancunian, Sam Walton. With a deadly youthful energy, these tracks find a killer sweetspot between instinctive Grime flow and the cool reserve of House with a highly refreshing lack of conceit, as opposed to, say, the flash, ultra-manicured moves of Damu for example. Face up, there's the dutty discipline of 'Aggy', syncing classically hard-assed Grime snares and cheeky synth squiggles with a rolling House flex, while 'Mangled Riddim' breathes 808-state-like synth pads over the kinkiest, hip-twystin' Latino 808 beats. Flipside, he plays it cool with the tropical fragranced synth washes of '808 Vibzin' before going in tuff on the stripped and bleepy swing of 'Skrilla'. No messin', this is a baaad platter!

Solid three-tracker from Manchester-based Walton, building on the bashy grimeXhouse sound he laid down on his 2011 debut. 'All Night' is a seemingly chaotic but in fact coolly controlled floor-wrecker, all coin-op FX, life-affirming string pads and blissed-out vocal pressure, really nice indeed; 'Mallet' is as functional as its title suggests, a cheeky, bleepy Funky roller for the DJs, but it's closer 'Kush' that' lingers in the mind - Walton drops the tempo right down to explore trippy but thugged-out hip-hop atmospherics with shades of Lone's Ecstasy & Friends and even Boards of Canada.

Walton returns with a strictly-limited EP to precede the release of his debut album 'Beyond'. This is a vinyl-only, once it’s gone it’s gone kind of release, just 300 copies available. ‘Baby’ is a brilliant and extreme mutation based around an R&B accapella, one that seems energised by R&B's avant-garde but danceable late ‘90s period. A hiccuping giggle over stuttering rusty engine stabs, and a so-stiff-it's-funky kick and and snare combination, make this a track that works brilliantly on the dance floor by sheer force of ideas and wildness. 'Can't You See's' widescreen ambience is held together by epic swelling chords, punctuated with rolling 8-bit spirals, trap-like bass, and snares. It's held together so tightly, it feels like it's going to 'drop' at any time, but prefers to just tease the listener in a state of excited suspense. Also included is an instrumental version of ‘Baby’
