A Letter To Our Time

Painted travelers,
Traverse the Bramble.
Machetes sharp,
With ornate handles.

They were humbled,
And without compass,
By what they found,
At the temple summit.

From the palisades,
To the temple mound,
The ghosts of kings,
Dance on hallowed ground.

Red-tailed hawk,
On burnt-black islet,
Spreads it's wings,
Into the sky.

And I think I died.

The World is over,
Anna Nicole was the final folder,
And we are all just ghosts.
So lay your dreams to bed,
You wont be needing them again,
And say Goodnight to Hope.

I read about it in the New York Times,
All the world is hurting.
Pick up the phone,
The dial tone is "We Are Rome"
And Rome is burning.

The World burns in a different way,
And I can't see through the smoke.

The politicos and their Money Shows,
They are on The Choke.

If your the House, The Floor, or the Senate Chair,
Your soul is rotten.
Let's cut to the chase,
This is all just an elaborate race,
To the bottom.

"Trouble" be thy name,
This Game Of Love is a deadly blade,
Held up to my throat.
So Goodnight Hope, I hope we don't,
End on some,
Lonely note.
What are the chances,
Our lives are of minor circumstance?
Nine out of Ten.
That's why when I say Goodnight to Hope,
I hold her close in case she don't,
Come my way again.
