1992 Rave In 7 Minutes

Having been an Amiga owner and fan since the early 90s (in fact I still have an Amiga 4000 which I used to record these samples from) I wanted to make a “DJ Friendly” version of my favourite Amiga demo, “Jesus on E’s” by LSD/Echo from 1992.

The original demo is a 30 minute rave mash-up with dozens of samples in it, I couldn’t condense it all down in to one track so decided to make two 5 minute tracks using my favourite parts.

I wanted to keep the authentic 8-bit sound so nearly all the samples are taken straight from the demo, but I have re-sourced most of the vocal samples as they were a bit too ‘crunchy’ and I have also used different breakbeats and percussion.

This mix highlights the tunes of 2024 that I personally like and played throughout the year. In contrast to the very beginnings of our contemporary Jungle scene, there are now so many releases I sometimes have a hard time keeping an oversight of what´s coming out. If you dig the selection in this mix and feel I missed out on music you think I should have included, please hit me up and show me, I will forever remain a student of the arts :) 

This 'Best Of' originally aired on the Peoples Station Show in two parts the last weeks, but since the mix was originally done in one, I decided to upload it in full here. Vali NME Click - Best Of 2024 Hardcore Jungle

Taking the lushness up to the max a collab with Drowncast from LA. He sent over a bunch of demos asking for a bit of feedback and this one jumped out instantly. That haunting synth line reminded me of peak Pete Parsons and that amazing golden period of atmospheric tunes. A few extra layers, some vocals and a bit of beefing up and we have a lovely melodic banger to round the release off

I met Jules at The Run Out after he made the trek over from Paris for the weekend. He sent a bunch of tracks over and I loved the foundations of WBD. I thought the foundations suited as slightly 93 style jungle workout which went heavy on the ragga and kept Jules’s wicked beat work. Wicked, bad and dangerous indeed!

We are absolutely thrilled to finally present you the return of Solaris to the label! It´s been a long time in the making, but we shortened your wait with Aurora/ New Moon on PARADUBS002 which came from the same set of tracks. So, here you have it: 4 more absolutely timeless tunes by the gifted man like Dean! 

'Solarize' opens with bongos and soothing vocals before echoing pitched-down snares lead into rolling amens and long choral pads. A fat subbass accompanies the rolling amens and we´re off for a fantastic journey: Big chord pianos and a dreamy atmosphere lull you and the fat subs and beats ensure this works for both the headphone as well as the dancefloor crew. A future classic!

'Beautiful Things' don´t ask for attention, it never lets itself be seen! This tune ends this epic journey and guides you back home. An intense ride. With dark pads, hard synths, hard breaks, and booming 808´s. So tough it even makes Sean Penn stop in his tracks.
