A bit of fresh air

This song began as a mostly fully fleshed out idea from Chris. He presented it to the rest of Eclectic Collective as a bass line with a rhythm guitar chugging the goove. Awesomely powerful groove, but pretty stripped down compared with the final version.

We did this in an odd order this time, for no particular reason. Probably because Chris' bass groove was so strong, Mark was able to first add his ripping organ throughout, inspired by Deep Purple. Tez, again surprisingly, was able to add the fiery solos at the end and the intro, even before the drums were up. Although, we didn't have to wait long for that, because Ken filled them in perfectly, as he always does. Once the structure and rhythm section was complete, Josh decided to add the synth solo in the middle, at the crescendo, which he really enjoyed doing. Stephen came last to the party, but replaced Chris' rudimentary rhythm guitar with a fierocious, but more riff oriented, and less chordy line throughout.

Once it was in the bag, Chris was the natural choice to mix it, since his productions are always top quality, and it was his song to begin with. During the production, he also decided to add the guitar, including the an e-bow like device called a SandStone that sounds a bit like a synth, and vocal tones to the middle and end. He also added the vocalizations you hear in those parts, as well.

This is an example of an Eclecitic Collective song started by Chris, whose music we adore and with whom are always excited to work. This one is a very nostalgic song that I wrote back in 2008, it has that early 60's vibe to it. My wife I needed some good vibrations since we were dealing with her Breast Cancer treatments and all that. We really needed a feel good song and so I wrote this. I even got her to sing background vocals with me on two songs at that time, this being the first and "Back In Younger Days" being the second, I'll be making a video on that one later on this year. 
    I double-tracked Charlie's vocals and he sang it perfectly! I remember having a real good time at these sessions, lots of laughing and finger snapping and rockin' & rollin' and what not!😂 I always want to relive the good ole days where smiles were plenty and frowns were few, like on "Memory Lane"!

     The video is brand spanking new, I just finished it last week! I worked hard on it for several days and tried to capture that Beach Boys kind of vibe of the early 1960's. I finished the video after hearing the sad news of Brian Wilson's passing on June 11th, 2025. That really made me sad, another of my musical hero's now gone. He was a real musical genius! There are 3 parts to the song, all about guys begging forgiveness from their girlfriends for something stupid that guys always seem to do, I Still Remember that!😂
     I think this is one Miami Jeff's best songs and certainly one of my favorites. It's very catchy and is a perfect summertime song! So I hope everyone is having a great summer and is eager to take another trip down Memory lane with me. This time to the beach! My latest song, Empire, was born from the haunting Dunkirk beach scene—young soldiers lined up in silence under the blazing sun, waiting. No speeches, no music—just the weight of dread. Their stillness felt like bravery. Above, RAF pilots fought unseen, alone in the sky, risking everything for those below. The song emerged as a sound collage, built from simple chords and evolving textures that captured the quiet courage and tension I felt. It’s a sonic reflection of that liminal space—between fear and hope, action and stillness.

The idea for this song came to me randomly while driving down some backroad a few years back, and I recorded the initial idea spur of the moment. For whatever reason, the rather morbid theme came out in the process and I just went with it. Nat is a daring soul and surprisingly encouraged that we record it and with her considerable help we fashioned this recording. Notable is that Nat has taken on the ability to add some beautiful pedal steel guitar throughout the song using her well established keyboard skills and this first run at it was very satisfying. Candle in My Coffin

I am an unsigned singer/songwriter from Sunderland in the north east UK.

I have been writing songs for a few years now and have CD's on various web sites such as CD Baby, Itunes , Spotify etc.  My goal is to write good songs and hopefully have come up with a few along the way.

I love wring and recording songs – it gives me great pleasure staring from nothing but a blank piece of paper and finally coming up with something that sounds good.

I have collaborated with other people while being on Soundcloud – my long-time partner Ralph Donkin writes exceedingly good lyrics and between us have come up with many a good song.

My other partner Glen Granthem from Sacramento in USA has also been inspirational in my recordings – he is a very talented musician and producer and has brought life to many of my songs that otherwise would have been second rate.  We also have collaborated on many songs.

I have written songs with other people and I thank them from the bottom of my heart for their endeavours.

Thank you for all of you that have listened and commented on my songs and those who will in the future.  I am very grateful that you stopped by and listened – hope you have enjoyed what you have heard.
