On 13th November 2021, we landed and returned home once more: back in our rightful place of Dare To nightclub. Picture the scene (once more):

Super-sub DJ Boursin had stepped in last minute for COVID-fallen DJ Mooncup, pulsing his heavy as a house super subs through the main room, leaving no unaddressed club-cum-capitalist trauma untouched. Elena Colombi then slipped right on in, warping the UV paint on the walls to a new shade of weird. Her signature idiosyncratic chug, tampered with a charming yet chilling darkness, that on a slow and steady boil, tickled the room, tendon to toes. Then, N-R-G-FLASH, Oceanic rises from the waters...

Liquid fire licking and scolding; rigid and shifting steel structures. Pure BODY music. Bumping hard all the way through from hip to skull. The eclecticism of styles are held tight in a vice of lean and mean method and movement, slowly shifting shades in the blur of frenetic fray. 

Here is the sound of an artist who knows just when to lean into the lean grids of lights and when it's time to let go, lean back and let the music do the screaming. Also, that wiiiiiild midset tempo shifter? It's beauty in the madness and I'm so so damn happy he came through so hard.

He may be Dutch, but Oceanic's understanding of broken poly-riddims makes you wonder if he was born under the (continu-)Nuum-shaded moon. Damn, he even stressed how un-UK my "tech-house with colours of other" closing set was. And yeh coming from a performance like his, I had to take it tbh. Especially when he opened with a special dub comprised of voicenote I'd sent him. Big fucking lols. We love to see it.

V special guest for number ninety, Austin raised, now Brooklyn based Deep Creep ( @deepcreep88 ) presents a crazy mix in her signature style. Diverse, exciting and always fresh... Somehow always finding a way to blend smooth tech house and groove with surprising pops of dubstep, bass and beyond.

Resident at @thelotradio , regular at NYC favourite Public Records, and creative brain behind one of my favourite mix series @pipipigroup (www.pipipi.life), it's safe to say sasha is an integral member of the NYC scene. 

Admiring each other's series from opposite ends of of the world, we thought it'd be cute to publish our mixes for each other's series at the same time.

@okodj : A set recorded for La Fête de la Musique event of Oddity Radio, without knowing in advance that it was going to be recorded and published afterwards, which I have liked! This allowed me to play without having the "post live" experience in mind, so it's really honest and raw. The energy was super nice and I have reconnected with a lot of parisian friends at this party !

Musically it's a compilation of my summer favourites, including a bunch of very different genres as always : post punk, sexy house, industrial, amapiano, you name it !

Since the release of her debut EP ‘Another Place’ on Rotterdam's premiere Nous’klaer record label, upsammy has emerged as one of the most exciting contemporary electronic artists of our time. Known for her boundary-pushing vision of music and sound, upsammy’s string of releases on the likes of AD93, Die Orakel and Dekmantel have manifested into a back catalogue that give the sense and feeling of gallery of artworks. With a background in arts, it’s no surprise that upsammy works from a foundation of unbridled imagination. As is a common theme amongst many of my most admired artists, the power to present works that simultaneously champion both the weird and the functional is at the forefront of upsammy’s sound. It seems to me that the space between is where the magic happens - crystalline electronica, otherworldly ambience, hypnotic glitch and deconstructed club sounds morph to produce upsammy’s unique brand of contemporary, psychedelic idm. Her more recent and first long-player ‘Zoom’ showcases a somewhat softer side - warm crunchy textures, bouncing sub bass and at times-playful melodies are bound together with both quirky and functional rhythms. Zoom bestows upon us a beautiful and engaging collection of sounds which tell the story of both organic and digital realms. I once read a Bandcamp fan describe upsammy’s work as ‘fairytale idm’ and I couldn’t agree more. At the heart of every fairytale is a sense of magic, and everything upsammy does is just that. 

Alongside her productions, upsammy is an expert DJ who crafts brilliantly creative mixes and live sets with laser like precision - dynamic blends of experimental electronics weave between dreamy soundscapes, spacial percussion, psychedelic drum and bass and breaks - you can always expect the unexpected and this mix is no different! upsammy joined me live in the PBS studio on the 14th October 2022.

Skankstasy (aka Wanda Gaimes) is a long-time member of the Berlin undercommons, known as a tireless rave agitator for @lllecken, the queer-feminist party series she co-founded in 2016, writer, curator, and more recently, DJ. Skankstasy is moved by everything that grooves, from grime to juke groove, as we see on this mix she's prepared for us. 

Raised in a post-socialist country starved for Western cultural goods, where every mixed tape had to be cherished like a treasure, she grew up in a household that listened to funk, soul and blues. Later, when she emigrated, her heart started beating for trip hop, hip hop and dub and only started raving to 4-to-the-floor beats much later in life. Behind the decks (or on the radio waves), Skankstasy likes to surf the sweet spot between different rhythms and grooves with an ambition to conjure "a future queer skank floor" and a deep appreciation for the diasporic roots of dance music. Warning #117 Skankstasy

For the latest episode of the Warning Mix we have DJ Leeza in the mixxxx. The Leipzig resident and host of the Hotshot Raves at IfZ drops some UK and other bass and breakz music for our series. After playing in the fast rave lane for quite a while (and doing great there), Leeza takes it down a notch without compromising on the dopeness of her selections for a second.
