Naarm (Melbourne) based collective Butter Sessions celebrate over a decade in business with an extensive glossary of talented friends and affiliates pressed on a three-part compilation series. The label has always held the community closest, as exemplified by the 20+ artists featured over the three releases. Each 12” presents a grand soundscape anchored into the tenebrous energy of the dancefloor, with its inquisitive electronics and fierce pulse. If there was a definition for the Butter Sessions sound of ten years in the making, the answer lies here. 

The first installment opens with To Be Continued, an erratic composition from Aotearoa’s Vanessa Worm, charged with robotic bass and incessant hi-hats. Perth's upper shelf producers Guy Contact and Ewan Jansen respectively insert their own flavour with Kickflip Bouquet, a mid-tempo trance tinged number, and Back to Blood, a distorted percolating experiment. Meanwhile, Barcelona based Ivy Barkakati contributes Descarga; a gnawing improvisation piece. Sleep D offers up a brooding atmospheric piece of techno with 041111, whilst Japan’s Haruka follows suit with the elastic Ishinoko. Albrecht La'Brooy drifts into more tranquil terrain with the flickering Butter Soft before Low Flung & DJ Mind Leaf & The Herbalist wrap up volume one with the dub-induced Take Out.

The quiet people were usually the most unassuming of all; they kept themselves to themselves, living a hermits life and never giving much away. But suddenly, as though the tide had gone out leaving them exposed, they revealed their true colours; underneath it all they had strength, fierceness and tenacity. They only chose to show it when they were forced to.

We've got a fresh label on our hands... p.istol is brought to life by Cape Town-based producer Biodive who offers up a four-track trip created during the depths of lockdown. Following releases for labels like Church and Coymix Ltd, his 'Limpets Minds' EP dives headfirst into trance-tinged sonics that are equal parts blissful and euphoric; including a beat-driven and beatless mix and a pacey early hours rework from NAFF boss Priori.

Terra Magica Records, a micro-label from Munich, starts with its first release in Sept./Oct. with a 4 tracker 12".

Masterminds Mirko Hecktor & Tom Sprenger present Social Rub with two tracks of Hektisch Sprengen DJ`s on side A. The tracks are called Social Rub and Dancing Dust. Both tracks are full of great diversity and different electronic genres inspired by African Roots Music, Japanese Rituals Sounds and TR-808 Grooves.

On the flip side internationally reknown DJ Normal 4 (Warning, Aiwo rec.) will deliver a remix treatment for ‘Dancing Dust’ called Normal 4`s Liquid Lifespender MixX.

Fully tooled for club use, the remix navigates through early UK-Rave, hypnotic Trance with an electric sitar anthem lead and Breakbeats while keeping up the Ethno touch. There will be another remix on the
B side by DJ Chrysalis (PP, Head Rush ENT.) from Down Under
of `Social Rub‘ called PDQ Remix which is nestled between dreamy and acid influences.

PE012 is a label friends & family junction, a 12” summoning the distant yearning of otherworldly sonic release. Ciel and D. Tiffany unite as new collaboration Psychedelic Budz, long time friends who share a mutual affinity for prog and a desire for elevated states; offering Faerie Stomp, it’s internal reworking plus remixes from Ludwig A.F. and Adam Pits. The aural synergy of the record is laced throughout, tripped out spooky tech-trance, evocative dark imagery conjured at different speeds and energies. Like most of the Planet Euphorique catalogue, these tracks can duly be heard echoing throughout the night sky through forest or bush, as bodies flicker and move in hypnotized, unleashed states. 

The A side; the Origin Mix of Faerie Stomp and the Enchanted Mix by the Psychedelic Budz themselves sets the tone; tweaked atmospherics and field recordings, scurrying textures creating rhythmic collage. Drama and tension build through drones and bubbling 303 lines, villainous cackling and delay consuming the introduction in anticipation as the track develops into a stomping four to the floor promenade. Snares roll and chop in dizziness, encouraging your surrender to the lucid melodic synth lines, twirling in transfixion. The alternative mix could almost fit entwined into the original, slightly murked and more rhythmically rigid with metallic snares cutting through the denser timbre. Overall an expanded aura and creative opportunity for the deejays and those inhibiting dance space. 

Flip to the B side for the remixes, firstly Ludwig A.F.’s Haunted rendition. Keeping the eerie attitude in check he morph’s Faerie Stomp into a bombastic bass heavy club anthem, playing with build ups and stripping back elements for effect, the track is always propelling forward, shuffling shakers and scratches making it impossible not to move with it. Adam Pits also maintains the essence of the original whilst offering a whole new translation for his Undergrowth Mix, gargling baselines and whip crack percussion - buckle up for a hard and fast trip to new heights. Sweet relief is brought from floating stabs and melodic subtlety, softer break chops rolling over the brutal low end before the end of the record dissolves down to the encompassing swirling modulation and charging drum work. 

Four different devilish dance workouts for this unprecedented time. The power lies in the mesmerization. Lose yourself to the supernatural environment in the sonic texture.
