For the tenth edition of the Warning 12” series - Secretsundaze, now led by James Priestley, releasing his first work under the moniker as a solo venture and marking a new sonic direction for the project. On WAR1210 he delivers two original cuts residing on the A Side, with remixes on the flip.

The EP opens with ‘Doesn’t This Sun Feel Great’, a rising, percussive track that utilises disparate samples and twisted vocal manipulation for a fast paced, dancefloor orientated roller. Progressive in outlook, organic in nature, the track steadily builds throughout, culminating in a deserving, euphoric release. ‘The Real Sun’ takes the sensibilities of the opening track and leans on its raw, rolling percussive energy, keeping things highly functional and grooving.

The B side commences with Drua’s version of ‘Doesn’t This Sun Feel Great’. Drawing for a sonic palette quickly becoming synonymous with him, the remix twists and turns in a mesh of psychedelic progressive and hard hitting tech house. To wrap up proceedings Giraffi Dog delivers his captivating ‘700 Lakeside remix’ of ‘The Real Sun’, pushing boundaries with an inventive score that transforms the original track's energy.

Following the development of the project to a solo venture of co-founder James Priestley, Secretsundaze marks another key milestone in 2024 with the release of the first original material by the artist under the Secretsundaze moniker in over 4 years.

Coming out on Berlin institution WARNING, the  WAR1210 EP exhibits the sonic development of Secretsundaze as a producer and DJ. Progressive in outlook, organic in nature, the two tracks (accompanied by remixes from Drua &  Giraffi Dog) help copper fasten the overall landscape for Secretsundaze’s artist vision.

All of a sudden there was daylight, a new dawn. It were as if his whole life had been a mystery and clouded in secrecy until now. Then all would be awakened, a new day would be born and with it would be glimmering bright, golden rays of angelic light from up above.

This was the real sun. Not that which had been promised but a reality from the greater heavens beyond.

Soon they would all dance beneath its triumphant glow, forgetting the dark days which had come before.

Warning offers a home for a new Secretsundaze EP, the longstanding label and project spearheaded now by James Priestley. The record marks a new direction with futuristic, progressive tech driven sounds at the forefront.

The Mission

Channeling peak-era dark garage ambience and contemporary trance stomper technology in the same breath, on their debut collaboration Silhouette (AKA Vision of 1994) and Kobayashi Maru join forces on Amphibian Records for The Mission, a 4-track EP that airlifts the snarl and frayed temper of early dubstep into the psychedelic frontiers of modern dance music.

On the A1, the title track’s driving 140BPM two-step thunder, scored with doomy metallic bellowing reminiscent of early Distance and a rolling bassline right out of Big Apple’s playbook; on the flip, Last Transmission’s frosty atmospherics and crisper-than-snow UKG-inflected percussion, a sharp retort on every third beat superimposed onto a trance-techno model.

Two lower-tempo cuts kiss each runout groove, with no lessening up in sound pressure. Winter Outpost is at the last of its tensile strength, neo-noir synths pulled skin tight over a frame of sharpened breakbeat, while End Credits shakes it all loose with a serpentine beat, a note of wistful melancholia belying the weight behind its punch.

Four cuts of divergent dance music, shaped by the waters that fed Amphibian Records’ tastes — dubstep, garage, techno, trance, trip-hop, etcetera — but charting new territory on the cusp of the known.

Kobayashi Maru is a Prague-based producer & DJ who moves sound with psy/tek flavour, techno and bass influence, organic textures and complex, pacey rhythms. A member of the Amphibian collective, Kobayashi Maru also creates music and performs live as the duo DDAT, with atch22. He is also associated with Prague’s Ankali nightclub, where he works and performs.

Silhouette, aka Vision of 1994, has made an indelible impact on the Czech nightlife scene over many years as a shapeshifting DJ and producer, through his sets and productions developing a sound rooted in the UK spirit with an Eastern European temperament.

Priori’s hit EP Pareidolia gets a well deserved remix treatment. The relation between Priori and Midgar started early 2023 with the release of his Pareidolia EP, where a remix for Keplrr followed quickly the year after. Now, early 2025, a group of close friends and admired artists were invited to rework the Pareidolia’s originals.

Midgar affiliate Forest Drive West uses the opportunity to present not one but two remixes. Presenting one half-time 85 bpm twist of Hazard and another slow-paced murky techno groover. Originally from Montreal, Maara forms the Canadian connection and she turns Memory Palace into a beautiful bouncy dub-techno floater. Sound experimentalist Notte Infinita takes his turn on Pareidolia’s title track and creates some magnificent eyes-closed drum & bass hypnotism. At last, Amsterdam’s upsammy brings back the light with her iconic playful approach. She flips the steady groove of Glass Shards into a jumpy interplay of rhythms and joy.

Across four tracks, it looks to merge minimalism with rhythmic invention, starting with the rugged 'Psi' with its thudding kicks and moody synths. 'Fluid' then brings more lithe, urgent rhythms with deft sound designs adding a futuristic edge and 'Interstate' then brings more raw texture and tension with heavy drones and paranoid spoken words that pan about the mix. 'Resin' shuts down with a nice tight blend of kicks and hits that is easy to latch onto and get lost in.
