Volume 70 is a new recording by Berlin based sound artist, writer, and filmmaker Florence. She is a frequent contributor to NTS’s Sounds On Screen series and holds a monthly feature on MUBI’s Notebook where she dives deep into the music used by certain filmmakers in their soundtracks (Greg Arakki, Kelly Reichardt, Satoshi Kon, etc.) and focuses on certain OST composers / era’s of movies (Wendy Carlos, Giallo, New Hollywood etc). Her contributions to both of the aforementioned series alongside her one off mixes have been a big source of discovery and enjoyment, so it’s an honor to share this mix of hers which distills many style’s / feelings / tempos into a dreamy hour and a half session.

@okodj : A set recorded for La Fête de la Musique event of Oddity Radio, without knowing in advance that it was going to be recorded and published afterwards, which I have liked! This allowed me to play without having the "post live" experience in mind, so it's really honest and raw. The energy was super nice and I have reconnected with a lot of parisian friends at this party !

Musically it's a compilation of my summer favourites, including a bunch of very different genres as always : post punk, sexy house, industrial, amapiano, you name it !

Theory Therapy 46 is by Naarm-based producer Third Space, who’s recently released a gem of an album on Other Joe's .jpeg artefacts. 

Matt’s mixes are something special; like their albums, they’re always so thoughtfully pieced together and all-encompassing. This one reminds me a lot of Scissor Kick. It features a medley of found sounds, scattered percussion and spectral electronics. We hope you enjoy it, wherever you listen.

Wherever https://soundcloud.com/genie4 goes, behind her is a trail of mischievous and knowing art. 

One of her many talents is her deep commitment to weaving supportive and nourishing space for other artists. She's one of the brains behind Ngunnawal/Ngambri's beloved sideway and runs the long-standing https://soundcloud.com/orbit0o0 mix and party series renowned for its eclectic taste, creative set design and carefully considered lineups. Some of my best nights of dancing have come under her thoughtful guidance :)

Aside from her behind the scenes work, she's a supremely creative dj and producer always in the know; toeing the line between sharper electronic sounds and more soulful, human selections. Recently, she's been playing live, so someone please book her in!!

She has so kindly put together a mix for the series, which captures her knack for keeping things fresh. As glitched out, textural and tense as it is warm and fluttering as it is emo as it is club ready, genie paints on a real-world pop canvas, alluding to all states of mind. 

Genie's tongue-in-cheek style is never insincere but reminds us to not be too serious (something I suck at - ie this write up)

Blessed to invite Samira @sbm1987 as a guest for the new episode of Mothernism show. Samira Ben Messaoud works at art space Nest and is the owner of Bureau Convoi, a lobbying agency for cultural organizations. She is also a board member and resident at Operator radio. As a DJ, she usually comes back to a darker palette of melancholic electro and wave. ‘7 Ways Your Life Changes After Having a Baby’ is one of the articles that Samira relates to as a mother. “1. It’s no longer about you, 2. You will worry, all the time, 3. You will feel guilty, all the time, 4. Relationships change 5. Planning is everything, 6. 'Mommy Brain' is real and 7. It all makes sense, even when it doesn’t.” "That about sums it up, except that it doesn’t mention the immense ways in which your body changes, the feelings of eternal gratefulness, and the endless fatigue accompanying motherhood. I tried to find a place for all these different aspects as I was arranging this mix. I also wanted to acknowledge my privilege of being able to partake in this experience. I have become a mother to someone, while others may not be able to encounter the messy, beautiful world I am moving through." - Samira says.
