LAPSUS RADIO - 352 - Earth Trax

You might have first heard of Earth Trax under his original alias, The Phantom. Or maybe his given name, Bartosz Kruczyński, which he uses for gorgeous ambient music. Or Pejzaż, where he cuts up Polish records from his vast collection. Or as part of Ptaki, another sample-based project he did with fellow Warsaw resident Jaromir Kamiński. You get the idea—dude makes a lot of music. And a lot of it is very good. Earth Trax is the project that really made us swoon, with a soft-focus, sunset-hued meld of techno, breakbeat, progressive house and trance.

On wonderful records like LP1, melancholy is the operative word, but Kruczyński isn't exactly a sadsack. It's more complex than that, nailing the tears-on-the-dance-floor vibe with the part that many people forget: it's still club music. That's why tracks like "Dream Pop," which kicks off this mix, are so successful—they're heavy but never weighed down by emotion, with a skip in their step and a robust low-end to go with the sighing vocals. 

Kruczyński's RA Podcast is something of an excavation of this sound, using his own tracks and those of like-minded producers to sketch out a style that's equal parts rousing and pensive, midtempo but still propulsive. Over two and a half hours he lets these tracks breathe and leisurely mixes them together, almost like an old-school progressive house double mix CD but in the more vibrant, varied clothes of today—before it starts to unravel into an extended, beatless outro that's worth sticking all the way until the end for.

It’s no longer news to anyone that Australian electronic music propelled itself to international spotlight in recent years. There is an infinite array of up and coming talent emerging from down under. Amongst them are the dynamic duo of DJ Sarah and Georgia Bird, known as In2stellar, whose collaboration started in 2017. 

Their energetic sets influenced by 90s dance music, fusing gritty breaks, UK bass and proggy bass lines are a candid insight into their true selves that we are pleased to discover through this insightful conversation.

The latest edition of the Warning Mix Series comes straight outta Warsaw and the studio of Bartosz Kruczyński better known under his stage name Earth Trax. The Polish artist made himself quite a name with a steady flow of top notch productions, praised by labels such as Rhythm Section, Shall Not Fade, Aus Music and Les Yeux Oranges. 

With this recording he’s once again proofing that his skills as a DJ are not any inferior those as a producer. You’re in for an hour of jacking yet spherical techno sound!

Fast, vicious, tribalistic and psychedelic are key words to describe his productions that are widely used on dance floors around the world as we speak. With upmost support from mastro Patrik Skoog and releases under his belt with Gypnotica Records, Ghetto Rhythm and Rave your soul, Eli’s mark on the local and global underground dance scene is most definitely notable. We are glad to welcome our friend Francesco Belfiore from Roma. Francesco is a Dj, live performer, producer and he specializes in modular techno. He has recently released an Ep on Semantica Records and also for the label Concrete Records. He's the founder of the labels Truth or Consequences and Save the Blessed, the latter known for releases by artists such as San Proper and The Analogue Cops. His music is distinguished by a minimal and hypnotic sound, characterized by intricate rhythms and complex sonic textures, reflecting the influences of the Berlin school and dub techno. His performances are a journey through pulsating rhythms and dark atmospheres.

I visited Pikes in Ibiza and played a set of the music that inspired my Bed Wetter album, as well as the sounds that are informing my ongoing work for Sage Gateshead as their artist in residence for 2020/2021.
I also performed live for the first time, playing some of the early sketches from the performance I'm writing which will debut next year.
