Off the back of their first EP release, Super Fun Bumper Edition’s ‘Trends’, which received support from the likes of XL8R, Thump, Future Classic and Bradley Zero, https://soundcloud.com/beatsofnonationradio is now gearing up for its second release by the "Chord Memory Band".
Chord Memory Band is a recent collaboration between Michael Medlycott (from the band Vulture Street Tape Gang) and Dom Bird (BONN co-founder and member of the live disco 4 piece Mitzi).
At the end of 2016, Michael and Dom caught wind of a cave, nestled beneath a sacred mountain, deep in the Australian outback. The rumours described a cave filled with nocturnal animals and ancient flora, but more importantly, a stash of vintage synthesizers and drum machines. Guided by whispers and caught up in the mystic mystery of it all, the duo set off with a dusty four-track tape recorder in an attempt to capture these mythical cave vibes and place them on a record. Michael and Dom surfaced several months later, with four recordings and no memory of what had occurred. These recordings became their synergistic ‘Third Eye’ EP – an analogue journey into the spiritual world, with one simple message, “the answer is inside”

Bouncy, percussive, full of fresh air and hands free delight, the bright sun rays of Sam O.B. shine again on the Astro Nautico imprint, a true homecoming for the label co-owner.

‘Pep Ventura’ is a summertime roller replete with electro square bass and guitar interplay, blasting synth stabs, and a bell-and-clave shuffle that motivate pure body movement. “Pep’s got that bounce for you.” ’Addictive’ opens expansively with lung-level piano chords spiraling heavenward. A triplet vocal scat pattern explodes with cowbell and syncopated fretless bass whirling us back to earth—or sea? Riding waves of rushing synth chords and singalong washy jazz guitar, O.B. ditches his yacht rock connoisseurship in favor of a bed of quasi-kuduro grooves sounding like your next beach day.

O.B.’s trademark is crisp here. Genuine fun meets just-sincere-enough emotionality, musicianship, and a producer’s producer’s knowledge of dance floor engineering. Building on years releasing exclusively with LuckyMe, ‘Pep Ventura’ and ‘Addictive’ reveal new level nuance in O.B.’s sound, etching deeper a course long laid down by classics like Melted Magic (Astro Nautico, 2011). Keep an ear to the Astro Nautico ground for more soon from our hometown hero both solo and as one half of Ensemble Entendu together with the formidable Evan Shornstein (Photay).
