Description: made this track one afternoon in summer 2015 while fasting with @dirtstar in penang. after 2 days of writers block while learning the ropes of ableton live, belted this out on the 3rd day, with the idea of combining halftime dnb with techno chords. the picture is the view we had from his place. enjoy!

For our first release of the year, Melbourne’s Third Space captures his most club-focussed exploration to date. It offers a broad path which melts genres, instead showing us an alternate domain.

‘170 Shitshow’ showcases complex percussion underwritten by a formidable resonating karplus-strong section throughout the track.

Ask The Artist: Pete Lazonby aka Padre

Hailing from Mexico, Rainforest - aka Rodrigo Alvarez and Bwoykah ;) is not new to the worldwide Jungle / Drum + Bass scene. Initially starting his DJ career in 2002, he began producing music in 2004, and has since unleashed a flurry of digital releases alongside a number of vinyl offerings too. Pushing a wide range of music aesthetics in every single production, he always manages to focus on trying to make all his tracks sound a bit different from one another.

With a long list of labels supporting and releasing his music over the years, including: 45SEVEN, ALPHACUT, OFFISH PRODUCTIONS, AGN7 AUDIO MONOCHROME RECORDINGS, and WEAPONIST.

Rainforest has also found the time and energy to launch two labels: BREAKBEAT REBELZ and BACKGROUNDS MUSIC. Both imprints serve as an outlet for his own variety of works and for other like-minded producers to explore further experimental angles of JUNGLE and HALFTIME.

Much of the best electronic music rests along the axes of versatility and curiosity: being able to a pull a broad array of influences into your orbit and alchemise it into something distinctive and fresh. That's gyrofield to a tee.

Kiana Li began making waves in drum & bass as a teenager, years before setting foot in a club or experiencing the sound on a proper rig. That's a key factor which helps explain how the deeply-considered, Hong Kong-born producer arrived at a style that eludes easy description. Li, one of the foremost trans women working in drum & bass today, marshals complex rhythms like a sluice and has a knack for detailed bass programming that floods the stereo field without ever dominating it.

2024's spellbinding These Heavens was the apotheosis of an already quietly prolific catalogue; we named it the seventh best record of last year, but in truth, it could have actually nudged up a bit higher.

Li's RA Podcast is a blur of rapid motion, featuring stalwarts (Dillinja, Skee Mask, Calibre, upsammy, Marcus Intalex), contemporary limelights (Nestax, Ehua, Aquarian, Maude Vôs), 17 of their own productions and a grip of truly uncommon selections, like Burnt Friedman & João Pais Filipe's "18-140." It's an ambitious mix from one of the most exciting talents at the vanguard of outer-zonal club music right now.
