<< Lucky enough, from early 2000s I've been visiting Japan quite regularly, my main interest has always been new music and I've always been looking for japanese releases that hardly I could find listed on Juno or other specialist shops in Europe... from early Crue-L Records to Jazztronik, from Flower Records to Takkyu Ishino techno stuff, from DJ Muro to Mitsu The beats via Jazzy Sport. 

Trough the recent years "our" music world has gone mad for obscure edits and hard to find records getting re-issued making "new" music not so cool as it used to be, so as a proper fashion victim and true balearic DJ wannabe on my latest trip this summer 2017. I forced myself to listen to as much old japanese balearic music as possible: my man Nakura san introduced me to Walearic, the word means [japanese(和 wa) + balearic, and it's a conceptual mix series of japanese sounds only put together by the people behind 2nd hand music shops Coconut Disks. Influential to make it short.

This scrappy mix selection for StickyMix is my first humble beginner attempt to sound like the above, it's the result of endless sessions spent into Ella Records in Tokyo-Hatagaya and HiFiDo in Nagoya listening to every cheap record with a nice appealing cover, looking for at least 1/2 cool sounding songs for each LP; two Tatsuro Yamashita from his "best of", the classic "Vibration", my new classic "Star Wars Samba" by Takanaka... surely obvious stuff for many diggers but super exciting for your truly.

A concept album with an atypical genesis: the idea was born from a sequence of images, as the soundtrack for a movie (never made) on the exploration of the uses and customs of archaic and mysterious populations. The soundscape he paints shows an extraordinary coherence in this. Bjondo is an artisan, as in the tradition of the great masters of the Italian  Mondo Films,  and it’s precisely to that manual knowledge, to that exploration and to those sounds that the disc is most recalled. The artist's research and his eclecticism translate into the wise use of rudimentary tools (bamboo, pieces of wood, stones, vases, necklaces and even a sort of self-made berimbau) to obtain unique and unclassifiable exotic sounds. His research on the evocative skills of primordial sounds breaks with the
narrowness of the genre and opens up to total experimentation. Each listening opens the window of imagination on other worlds. A dizzying look at the lost memory that is hidden inside each of us. A continuous (re) discovery!
