Mix number 078 comes from an artist we have been particularly excited about in 2018. Affiliated with the Discwoman collective, Ciel is a DJ and producer who has released her own well-received brand of bright, textural house and electro into the ears of many dancers since the year began. Her records on Peach Discs and Coastal Haze are luscious and inviting and her DJing, as proven in this mix follows suit. The mix at hand is a recording of Ciel's set at Piknic Electronik Montreal this summer. It's a snapshot into her world and it's sublime. We hope you enjoy this mix as much as we do.

The artist who has provided us with mix number seventy nine of our ever-growing mix series is the Numbers and UTTU regular, Deadboy. Having been a prominent figure on the scene since 2010, Deadboy has delved deep into many sounds and styles. His earlier productions found solace in garage-tinged, bright house music, whereas Deadboy's recent records are drenched in pulsating low-end, leaning further towards techno than house. He's incredibly prolific, both in production and DJing, as this mix proves outright. Weighing in just shy of sixty minutes, the mix wastes no time getting into it as it weaves in and out of varying styles with unrivalled finesse. We love the mix and we're positive you will too.

Many of us at Watch the Hype have ES-Q tipped to have a defining 2019, with the artist formerly known as Squarehead due to release a cracking EP on one of our favourite labels in the coming months (Keep your eyes and ears peeled). As our mix series passes it’s 80th contribution, we have taken a small break to readjust and bring in some extra special artists to bring us each step closer to mix 100. Kicking off this stretch we have Bristol-based Australian native, Galtier. Head honcho of the ever-expanding Nostro Hood System, producer of some of the more interesting club-oriented music to come out in the past year and all-round unpredictable DJ, Galtier has provided us with sixty minutes of sleazy, broken club-oriented bangers, starting off slow and chuggy and ending with a slew of ambient, covering wide stylistic ground en-route. The blend covers off more in an hour than most would in three without feeling rushed in the slightest. It’s a real special mix for us at Watch the Hype and we hope it is for you too.

Koehler is an artist with an extraordinarily strong back catalogue who has consistently managed to successfully reinvent his sound whilst retaining a quality that allows his music to sound distinctive and original. Production aside however, it goes without saying that Koehler is a highly prolific DJ. The mix he has provided us with today exists as one of my favourites from the man himself. It starts off with a sharp wail of guitar strings, leading forth into a muddy 4x4 which sets the scene for the 75 minutes ahead. The mixing is impeccable and the selection brings on a certain atmosphere that lingers throughout the whole mix. It's one that is encased in groove, breaks and powerful synths and it's one that provides the mix with an addicting quality. We love it and we're sure you will too.

At Watch the Hype, we feel like the leftfield-leaning, bass-obsessed UK sound that we all fell in love with has developed into a beast that now breathes in pockets scattered across the world. As of the past few years, Manchester has become a hub for this broken-beat sound and the new breed lies with Cong Burn, a label and collective of artists who are making large ripples in the scene right now. Our guest for mix 083 is one of the founders of the label, Howes. The mix he has provided touches on many abstracts that feed into the genre, whether it be ambience, thick basslines or off-kilter percussion, with each track lending something special to the next. Featuring a host of unreleased Cong Burn-affiliated rhythms, the mix is a journey and we highly recommend listening from start to finish.

With a stand-out 2018 release on Bristol's own Only Ruins, Syz has been a key figure in the Bristol club circuit for a number of years now. His broken, twisted take on UK techno lives up to the high bar set by some of Bristol's very own ambassadors of the genre, namely Livity Sound, Wisdom Teeth and Timedance. With support from DJs like Hodge and Henry Greenleaf, Syz's tracks keep getting better and better (check out his contribution to Pressure Dome's breakout V/A compilation, 'Spook'). Production aside however, Syz co-runs one of Bristol's most consistent parties, Method Lab. Responsible for bringing the likes of Cop Envy, Mor Elian, No Moon and Re:lax to the city since its formation. The mix Syz has provided us with today is a true representation of Syz's off-kilter style as he plays around with its momentum from the very beginning, laying it on thick with a healthy dose of wobbly bass and crispy breaks, ending the blend with a soft, emotional closer from none other than Ostgut's own, Barker. This is a mix we're very excited to showcase. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
