Time Tourist

I saw him, he was standing  over there - 
 a nearly eroded complexion from the things he’s seen. 
The horror wore his face like sand paper,
while the tears carved cracks in his skin 
so deep that his tears filled them with lakes.  

His hair, as frail as dried leaves- 
bid to death by the very sun that keeps him alive.  
The sorrowful attempt at a smile which screams “HELP” more than hello.  
His clothes are burnt - burnt from the ember in his heart.  

Repeated steps.  
Repeated steps were the sound of his war drum. 
 Each step striking the ground with such force his lakes grew deeper.  
Filling with knowledge from each journey he takes - 
and he's gaining momentum.  

Slowly flowing through the forests like rivers, 
so eloquently  kissing the lips of the shore while he passes through. 
Though he may look frail, his scars stay proud- 
each one a token of the moment which he’s overcome.  
None of these meaning any harm, any more.  

His smile, his smile was everything.  
No matter what, no matter what he went through.  
He was always smiling back.
