Waves_motion is Jack Knill making music from the heart at his Montana home studio. The human condition, soulful moments, and the natural world all inspire themes in Knill’s music; where you’re just as likely to hear a psychedelic rock jam or deep house track as you are a synth-funk classic. He hit the scene in 2019 with his in-your-face freshman EP, Loud Boy and is back a year later to share with you another EP: Awesome Blossom!.  In a departure from the dark, digital nature of Loud Boy, Knill you will hear playing a lot of instrumentation live in conjunction with found sounds and modulated textures to create a warmer, more organic-sounding release. 

His love for music was born listening to late-night classic rock radio as a child growing up in Colorado. He got his first taste of creating music as bassist in indie-pop band Hikes. They played shows around Denver, making heads bob with their dreamy power-pop. In July 2010, Hikes recorded and released the Leisure LP, a recorded vault of the songs they had played at so many house shows and rehearsals over the years. After moving to Montana in search of big mountains and deep snow, he discovered the bedroom producers of Soundcloud; making music that even big recording studios couldn’t touch.  He subsequently downloaded Logic Pro 8 and in 2013 waves_motion was born. In 2019, the Loud Boy EP drops. It is a collection of energetic, hip-hop inspired beats that reflect Knill’s journey from being a music listener to a creator.

Now confident in his abilities, waves_motion plans to combine his pop songwriting background with his electronic music production skills to create something different. Gone are the days of instrumentals exclusively. Lyricism and vocal ambiance are big, new influences in Jack’s music and will be reflected in his upcoming project. As always, expect to be surprised.
