Speaking Out

In one of my media classes, we are talking about remixing and were tasked to think about how to steal something from everyday life and then remake it. It was hard not to think about how indigenous culture was taken from us and is appropriated all the time. Today, I appropriate items from the colonised world, made a drum, and sang a bit of a song that I learned when I was in recovery from alcohol addiction.

In this audio essay, we focus on two specific events. The Oka Crisis, and the recent battle the Wet’suwet’en land defenders have had to face, and the connection between these demonstrations and the land.
