Chicago producer Savile returns to his home base, Argot, for his second release of 2016 -- Share Power. Here, Savile skirts the bleeding edge of American dance music, proving without a doubt that he's mastered his own minimal sound. Lean, hypnotic, and syncopated. Share Power is an ode to collaboration, kindness, and making space, distilled through his vision for Midwestern house and techno.	

Share Power is dedicated to two parties Savile played in Ohio during 2015 -- In Training in Cleveland and Midwest Fresh in Columbus. On "Three Hours In The Meat Sink," Savile wrests maximum impact from the barest elements — a sparse, moaning bassline is the track's backbone, upon which rippling synth, hypnotic hi-hats, and a carefully placed call to arms roll out in stride.

Flip the record over for "Effort Won't Betray You," where explosive chord stabs fill a sharp, syncopated skeleton of percussion — that's all there is, and that's all there needs to be.

Savile - 3 Hours In The Meat Sink

Like many of us, Brooklyn-based producer Gunnar Haslam has long been drawn to acid. Following two releases on The Bunker New York alongside Tin Man as a part of their improvisational Romans project, Gunnar returns with “Scale No Flam”, his first 12” single for the label. Scale No Flam is both a love letter and a demonstration of why he can’t stop getting lost in the sound. According to Gunnar, “acid is just one of those things that creeps into your life and consumes everything around you - a psychedelic and textural approach to music that is simultaneously intense and smooth.” While acid has come to be defined by the Roland 808 and the 303, the hardware alone can’t define the feeling, and Gunnar believes “You don't need a 303 to make acid, you just need an open ear and an open mind.” 

After getting Mike Servito, Justin Cudmore, Derek Plaslaiko, and Bryan Kasenic all running to the booth to see what the fuck was playing at various times when Gunnar was dropping the unreleased “Scale No Flam” in his DJ sets throughout 2016, we had no choice but to press it to vinyl. Gunnar tells us he was playing around with trying to replicate the bass line of Heaven 17’s 1982 classic ‘Let Me Go’ when “things kinda mutated.” The A side is completely Gunnar’s own with a dominating acid line providing the backbone to a flangey work-out that is simultaneously totally crazy and totally logical. On the B side, fellow Brooklynites and co-members of the Hot Mix DJ crew, Mike Servito and Justin Cudmore add their perspective with a remix that draws out the hidden angular funk.

Melbourne’s own @LouKarsh steps up for @x-kalay’s 11th release with a fantastic EP of deep acid and techno. Previously, Lou has only released a handful of projects on his own imprint, Lou Karsh Records, and under a mysterious alter ego, Reptant. Here we find him flipping the switch between celestial sounding acid techno and more analogue driven machine workouts, a welcome combination of sounds that are certainly primed for the dancefloor.

The B1, “Robotnik,” was an instant favorite of the Bolting Bit’s staff. Taking cues from acid vets like Paranoid London, “Robotnik” immediately reminds us of the group’s finer material. Heavy emphasis is placed on a monotonous acid line, while beautifully produced atmospherics clang deep behind lines of percussive groove. Karsh shows a masterful use of reverb on this track. As it builds, he increases the depth of certainelements to alter the course of an otherwise straight forward track. Try to listen to “Robotnik” without forgetting where you are, or what year it is. This is a weapon for peak after-hours moments, when sweat induced fog rises over the crowd and brings the dancers together in unity. Finishing at just over five minutes, the track never overstays its welcome. Rather, it beckons a replay.

Keep an eye out for the “Ataraxia” EP, dropping on February 2nd via X-Kalay’s Bandcamp page. The record will be available both digitally and on vinyl so there’s no excuse not to pick this one up!

X/OZ presents their most awaited release yet: Fifth Force EP by Yagya. One of the most respected and embraced electronic music artist in Iceland since the early nineties, Yagya, a.k.a Sanasol, OZ Artist & Plastic now takes his sound further into a deeper, harder atmosphere. Known for beautiful deep minimal music with ambient soundscapes, this release speeds things up to 140 bpm while still maintaining the distinctive Yagya sound. As a special treat the EP includes a track written by Yagya, "Getting Closer To An Unknown Goal", originally released under the moniker "Rhythm of Snow" which later became the name of Yagya's first LP. The EP also includes the magical ambient track from his vintage collection "A Very Long Daydream". Fifth Force is not to be missed by any Yagya fans out there, new and old.

Dedication to details, attention to structure and a tireless pursuit of that specific and circular sound. The contextual element of ’Time Tracks’ seem to be placed in-between the most cordial music that Skudge has presented up until now, as well as bridging the singularity and adrenaline from the previous albums and EP’s.

We are invited into a palette of vivid mastery of details, brushes of percussion and narrowed basses that shatters deep. Pads and strings which acts as a foundation, evolves the music to a rigid composure.

A sonic narrative that seem to stem from motifs of the Earth, reflections of personal flair and moments remembered, dwelling on records collected. ’Ifach’ serves as an ode to the legendary UK imprint. Combining ’Time Tracks’ into a stark collection of studio sessions that features colleagues Daniel Andréasson (on Function) and Samo DJ (on Ifach).

One could argue that this is a territory proven to tick all the functional boxes, but Skudge manages to yet again display a highly personal take in a realm of conciseness.
