🚨Major Tom is back in orbit and he’s back with a vengeance for Ground Control 2, dropping two big 2005/‘06 organ and piano leaning Bassline House slammers. 🧑‍🚀

After drifting through deep space for 5 years, our spaceman, Major Tom, started receiving broadcasts from earth of a new sound coming out of the north being called bassline house. 

The sound was lighter and had cheesier pop vocals, but the drums were still chunky and the organ lines were infectious, so he fell in love with the new sound. 

After re-entering orbit in what he thought was 2005, Major Tom discovered that it was actually 2025 and the world had moved on…. Niche Nightclub had closed. 

However, to his surprise the sound persisted in pockets and was now back in full force. For him, bassline isn’t back because Bassline never left. 🧨

Ground Control 2 is a two track, Pure 05 Bassline House EP with songs ‘If You Wanna Dance’ & ‘Always Be My Baby (Organ Mix)’. The EP is available as a free DL on Soundcloud or on Bandcamp for a small fee.

Major Tom - Ground Control 2

In 1998, 25 years ago almost to the day, Ubisoft released an action video game for the Nintendo 64 known as Buck Bumble. 

Although the game didn't stand the test of time compared to others of the era, there was one element that gave it it's notoriety - the music. 

Composer Justin Scharvona who produced the music for the game, chose UK Garage as the genre for the soundtrack and the result was around a dozen filthy speed garage tracks. 

Although a number of the tracks from the original soundtrack got a makeover by producer Alec Falconer in 2022, when i saw the song making the rounds online, I could't help myself but do my own speedier and wubbier version of the title track fit for a 2023 dancefloor. 

And it just so happens that the game was released 25 years and 1 day ago...

Don't go was an Old Skool breakbeat/ hardcore song released in 1992 by group Awesome 3 and was one of their most successful songs. 

The track consists of 2 distinct sections, the uplifting stabby piano lead and a gritty Old Skool rave stab, all underpinned by a Stone Roses drum sample cut into a break beat rhythm.

The sound is distinctly 90's, so I wanted to pay homage to that and highlight the two distinct sections of the song by starting with an upbeat 4/4 Garage House drum loop over the piano parts, before moving into a darker, 90s speed garage Reese and warp bass for a second drop and even dirtier 3rd section.

Wax Works 2: New and Old Speedy G

Special request to all di gyaldem from North, South, East and West - Bruk Wine!
This one is a bit different to your usual speed garage tracks... jersey is infectious on the dance floor so I had to add a jersey drop, a dance hall cut and some breaks to make this warping 4/4 speed garage track unique.

The song is a reimagination of DJ Gunshot's iconic track Wheel Up which was so pivotal to Jungle and UK Garage. It is credited as one of the first tracks ever to use the iconic "dub siren" sound that now is quintessential UKG, so I had to pay homage to that and do my own 4/4 warping bassline version.

The track is a cheeky edit of the iconic and classic break beat track "Feel Real Good" by Manix, released in 1991. The original is soooo good, the track starts with a beautiful stabby, rave piano sampled from house track "Don't Wanna Go" by Sterling Void and vocals sampled from a Dihan Brooks. 

I wanted to honour both the house origins of the piano sample as well as the break beat drums that drives the original song, and while doing so, I realised I could do something fun and different, and hence this DJ tool was born.

The song starts as a piano house track like the original sample and a reese bass to drive momentum but I couldn't help myself from adding a bit of a warping speedy-g section too. However wait for the break down which becomes breakbeat before speeding up to a 165bpm jungle/ amen break drop. 

Use it to transition quickly from house to jungle or just use it to blow the face off your audiences - i'm not gonna tell you what to do, im not your mum.

Introducing my hard Bassline leaning Speed Garage alias, Major Tom.
 
Major Tom is a spaceman who departed earth in the year 2000 on an important mission into deep space. While he was exploring the frontiers of the galaxy, the circuitry of his spacecraft malfunctioned and he lost power. He drifted through deep space for what he thought was 5 years, but time passes differently in deep space, so when he finally managed to repair his spaceship and regain contact with ground control, the year was actually 2025 and the world he knew had changed.
 
Although his sound is very much stuck in the mid to late 2000s with big dirty square basses, chunky drums and cheesy vocals, he was pleasantly surprised to hear this northern flavour of bassline leaning speed garage had made a return… however for him, bassline isn’t back because Bassline never left. 

Ground Control 1 – a two track EP with songs PLAYA and Spaceman (Major Tom Theme 1), is available on Bandcamp as a free DL for the first week only which it will then move to paid.
 
This stuff is extra hard, slap ya in the face sorta oldskool dirty drops so hope ya like it.

We chatted about where he sees the genre heading, what it felt like having his tracks played out by heavyweights like IPC, and even asked the all-important question — if he were a fruit, what would he be? Wax Thief returns to PRESSURE with Flip Side — a two-track statement rooted in rhythm, bass, and low-key intensity.

Opening cut “Se Lo Dici Te” finds Wax Thief linking with Xirita on a hypnotic, dubbed-out roller built for the after-hours. Laced with percussive detail, smoky pads, and chopped vocals that drift in and out of focus, it’s a track that rolls deep and hits subtly — heady, groovy, and heavy on the atmosphere.

On the flip, “Tightrope” featuring Macca.47 raises the pressure — a taut, vocal-led stepper with plenty of weight in the low end and that classic Wax Thief swing.
