I was just playing with the reverb on my amp, then I felt like recording this. I've always been fascinated by these "lost" Hank Williams songs, and it's just pretty cool how Jack White got to finish one of them. And, sometimes it's just pretty noticeable how Jack emulates Hank, and I just find it really cute that our idols have idols as well.

Hats off to two of my favorite musicians.

In light of the birth of my latest sibling...

This one was the hardest to record, seeing as it's so long (which I had no idea of until I finished recording) one mistake meant playing it over again from the top - over and over again. And there really weren't that many full takes to choose from. I wrote this one last week, along with many others - I have a lot of new material, as I've been writing a lot lately, and now that I have managed to get some time off from school.

Also, I finally got a proper recording microphone - which I actually got for a shoot - film school stuff. But this now makes recording relatively easier, especially now that I've been writing a lot of new material, and revisiting some of the old ones I've written that don't have melodies as well. So that's that.

This is something I took out from one of my old notebooks. (I say notebook, but I really mean from the bulk of old coffee-stained yellow pads filled with songs and poetry I keep in a drawer somewhere.)

And yeah, I was gonna improvise a bit, but I was having cramps in certain places while I was playing (in a not so ergonomic posture), so I decided I didn't want to prolong my pain any longer and not make the song longer than it already is. Another time, perhaps.

Earthbound #2 (Original) - M.J.P.,III

This is probably the least verbose song I've written in a while (well at least per stanza, anyway). And I'm actually a bit amused at how this one came to be: this time the tune came first (as opposed to my usual "write an epic, figure out the three chords later") - I was playing around and this tune stuck with me, then I noticed I'd been unconsciously uttering the words - after that, it was just a matter of piecing it all together, wrapping words around the music, as opposed to recto-verso. Which was actually refreshing - I mean, I'm all for that "force yourself to be creative" thing, but this was truly a Black Swan: it not only made me look at songwriting in a different perspective - I think I also learned some new - some new, some new-old - things about myself. Just one of those things that make me feel alive and free, and excited again with this musical expedition that I started long ago.
