Episode 50 - Emma Jayne

Secret Cities have recently embarked on a Kickstarter campaign to fund their third album, to be recorded at San Francisco’s famed Tiny Telephone.  To help meet their goal they’re digitally releasing the (bonkers) original version of their debut album, Pink Graffiti, as one of the available rewards.  The idea is to show people where they’ve been to help them get where they’re going.

Before they scrapped most of it in favor of a warmer sound, Pink Graffiti was a relatively aggressive electro-acoustic beast with a maximalist bent. The original, 7-minute-long version of fan favorite Pink Graffiti Pt. 1 illustrates this dramatic metamorphosis, not unlike the scene in the Terminator when Arnold Schwarzenegger’s human exterior is burned away to reveal something more mechanical, ominous, and unfamiliar.
