On its quest of showcasing Brazil’s best music offerings, Selva Discos’ new release brings something fresh to the table: the crispiest batidão beats and synth vamps, courtesy of the duo Deekapz and their “Super Funk” EP.
The project was born from the idea of revisiting the period when baile funk and house music blended in Brazil’s late 80’s/early 90’s – that was the moment when the likes of Amazing Clay, DJ Raffa and Mad Zoo started exploring further the possibilities of their productions, mastering their style to perfection creating one perfect dancefloor crossover.
With that idea in mind, Selva Discos’ head Augusto Olivani aka Trepanado approached Deekapz, one of the greatest talents of the new generation of Brazilian electronic r&b music, and asked them to dive deep into this world and return with a new 5-track EP that take these references to a new level – getting all those great, but badly pressed tune ideas and making them sound super fresh, and also as classy as it can be – because that’s one of the things that Deekapz does best.
The EP starts with “Aquecimento Selvagem’’ and its introduction that pays homage to Brazilian pirate radio and classic soundsystems announcements, quickly hitting the listener hard with a brick of a synth line but not forgetting the melodic earworms that will last for days. The second track is the EP lead single, “Lei do Baile”, blending two classic baile funk samples before making you move with a superfat bassline – when it drops, it pours. The third track is “0800”, a tune that makes you picture the sweat dripping from a dark, strobbed dancefloor, with the hi-hats and the children’s voices putting dancers on a frenzy only to slow things down before bringing the next track.
The fourth song is “Lado B”, which is a gritty, stripped- down street soul kinda track that toys with a sample being fired up from the sampler all the time matched with some classic Brazilian comedy inserts. And closing the “Super Funk” EP is “Melô da Flauta”, a mid- tempo electro homage both to Paul Hardcastle and DJ Amazing Clay, something like a late-night radio tune that you could listen to on the car back from a party, with some lo-fi beats twist.

24-year old producer, VHOOR, is one of Brazil’s brightest talents to take the international stage. Hailing from the city of Belo Horizonte, VHOOR has been able to build a loyal fanbase both in Brazil and overseas, mixing global electronic music with Brazilian and Afro-Latino rhythms..

VHOOR’s work with American producer Sango, for their 2019 EP “Acima” helped introduce VHOOR’s talents to a global audience, while the two worked together for Sango’s more recent projects, including his album “Da Rocinha 4” and his EP “Sangozinho.” VHOOR’s music is frequently played on Soulection Radio (Apple Music 1), KCRW (Los Angeles), KEXP (Seattle), BBC1Xtra, BBC Radio6, WWFM, NTS, Bandcamp Weekly and others. His album releases have also been covered by international media outlets including The Guardian, Complex, AfroPUNK, Okayplayer, Bandcamp, DJ Mag, and Rolling Stone.

In Brazil, VHOOR is one of today’s go-to producers, working with some of Brazil’s brightest talents in the Hip Hop, Electronic, and Baile Funk realm. His latest album “BAILE” with Brazilian rapper FBC, helped modernize Miami Bass and Freestyle production and was widely featured on various Best Albums of 2021 lists. The album was applauded by Brazilian media and the single “Se Ta Solteira” went viral on TikTok and Instagram Reels, resulting in over 26 million plays on Spotify, while charting on several national and global charts on Spotify.

VHOOR continues to push the boundaries of electronic music production, importing international genres and incorporating them with Brazilian Baile Funk and other lesser known Brazilian rhythms. His solo instrumental albums (Ritmo, Baile & Vibes, Baile & Sauce, etc), and his work as part of the collective Weird Baile (alongside producers Mu540 and JLZ), have expanded the conversation on the potential of Brazilian electronic music.

“Baile & Bass” is an album with the intent on merging Miami Bass with contemporary production techniques, using dense textures, dissonant harmonies and moving bass. The album also helps re-establish Miami Bass's roots as a foundation to modern day Brazilian Baile Funk.
