Hot on the heels of a 3-track inclusion on the third instalment of John Digweed’s Quattro series on Bedrock comes a barnstorming remix package commemorating Aubrey’s very first Bedrock release, the Dystopia EP Remixes. The 3-tracks - Tyrant (Four Candles remix), Nature (The Morning Factory remix), and Topaz (Synthetic remix) have been causing a stir from DC10 to E1 (where Aubrey is DJing at the infamous annual Bedrock Easter bank holiday party in April).
It isn’t uncommon for people to take a break from dance music and make a subsequent comeback, but not many people take a 15-year break in the Welsh wilderness then sign all 5 of their first completed productions to a prestigious imprint such as Bedrock. Up steps Aubrey Fry who did just that, following the purplest of production patches during the pandemic
First came inclusion on John Digweed’s gargantuan 2021 Bedrock mix compilation sequel, Quattro II, with the track Hard featuring alongside contributions from luminaries including Robbert Babicz, Josh Wink, Darren Emmerson, Bushwacka!, Miles Atmospheric, and Quivver.
This was shortly followed by his first solo release for the label in May 2021 with the 4-track Dystopia EP, featuring the tracks, Nature, Tyrant, Topaz and Dystopia. The EP successfully shows off the contrasting sides of Aubrey’s productions, with elements of breaks, techno, and electronica juxtaposed to great effect for audiophile listeners and dancefloors alike.
Then there was The Loop (also included on the recent vinyl only RPM01 release on Bedrock, which created so much industry heat (labelled a “masterpiece” by Dave Clarke), the phone at Bedrock HQ did not cease to ring as DJs scrambled to find out what it was having heard John close with it at show after show.
On top of all this there’s a been a delicious 2-track EP collaboration with fellow Bedrock artist Four Candles for Somersville Records and there is a raft of top-secret Aubrey Fry releases and collaborations in the pipeline for 2023.

Nature Nature - Morning Factory Remix

Hicky & Kalo make a long awaited return to the label with the ‘Coming Back Home’ EP. ​

Bucking the trend of modern artists, Hicky & Kalo made their name for carving out a niche in the underground scene as resident DJs at the one of its kind Stereo Club in Montreal, as well as landing releases on some progressive house top labels such as Mango Alley, onedotsixtwo and Replug. And of course by spreading great music trough their own imprint, Plaisir Sonores.

The EP opens with ‘Coming Back Home’, where a dark groove emerges with spiky bass. Lightening the track, pretty arps dance playfully as heavily effected vocal ad libs add depth. One for the late floors waiting for the sun to make its first appearance of the day. 
‘From Sea to Sea’ continues the trend; deep satisfying low end grooves juxtaposed by breezy arps. A muscular, and ultimately danceable floor filler. 
Finally, the pair lay down some ‘Wisdom’(!), a lighter number with tons of character. Ethereal and uplifting, the groove is richly melodic and hypnotic from the off.
