Novelcast 109: Joey Coco

After realising they shared an uncanny stash of the same records, Melbourne Deepcast’s Myles Mac and Melbourne via Copenhagen’s DJ Camov formed a tribute band of sorts, occasionally coming together to share their obsession for forgotten 90s house music with the world. 

On their regular journeys back through the golden years, Project 95 moves between the soulful house of Chicago, NYC garage, Detroit techno, acid and early French filter house, channelling the legendary grooves of Ian Pooley, Paul Johnson, Daft Punk, Wamdue Kids, Fresh & Low, DJ Tonka, HMC and Roy Davis Jr. to name a few. No stranger to the interwebs, their distinct styles have been featured across the spectrum with extended mixes for Melbourne Deepcast and London’s Stamp The Wax Diggers Directory podcast, with a three-hour session covering everything from 90s dub techno to IDM and rave.

At home, the duo has been regularly called upon to set the tone for the likes of Glenn Underground, DJ Qu and Jeremy Underground, have been found winding back the clock at club nights like Melbourne’s Lost Weekend and Lucid, Sydney’s Vibe Positive and Heavenly, and Pitch Music & Arts Festival in country Victoria.

It was an infatuation with electronic music from a young age that sparked the beginning of Nick Berry’s DJ career in the Sydney scene back in 2014. Since then, Berry has made a name for himself through his acute deviation from what is expected, playing uniquely melodic music punctuated by an eclectic mix of deep house and techno - influenced by the early years of dance music. Fast forward to present day and Berry has shared lineups with Âme, DJ Koze, Jimi Jules, Trikk, The Drifter, Oliver Koletzki, Andhim, Super Flu, Gerd Janson, David Mayer and Panthera Krause to name a few. During the stagnant year of 2020, he maintained his divergence from the conventional when he founded Anomaly alongside Harry Hooper and Milly Lees. The brand is a cultivation of deep electronic music paired with finely curated graphic design to help listeners navigate through the beautiful obscurities of electronic melodies. in 3 short years, Anomaly has hosted takeover parties at some of the best venues around the globe, including Sisyphos in Berlin, Electric Bar in Melbourne and a Secret Warehouse Party in Sydney. releases on respected international labels such as Elrow, Pitch, Desert Hearts and many more,
4 Ep’s collecting spots in the Beatport top 10. As a DJ he has a long list of coveted party’s and
festivals under his belt with highlight performances at Lost Paradise, Burning Man, Beyond The

Skelesys hails from Argentina but now finds himself in the creative hub of Berlin. He draws upon his rich musical background of hard rock, punk and synth pop, alongside his love for science fiction and horror movies, to deliver a neat mixture of minimalism with techno. Alongside other artists which include acts like Curses, Rigopolar, Theus Mago and more, the Argentinean pushes a sound which sounds organic and raw, yet stands firmly inside the camp of electronic music. You can find his music on labels like Play Pal, Creepy Finger and Playground with a lot more to come. This is music for the darker moments of the night when the dance floor is in a flow state and nothing else matters.

Novelcast 07: Skelesys

Starting his career in the early nineties, Damon Jee has followed an unconventional path towards becoming a globally renowned DJ. The last two years have seen a surge in his profile, no doubt due to the effective simplicity displayed in his productions, it is the sort of tracks that can ignite any flagging dancefloor.

His remix of Pardon Moi's 'Power To The People' was considered by many DJs as one of last year's biggest club tracks. But it was his recent Beatport-charting release on Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant records which introduced him to a whole new audience. Further online videos showing artists such as Maceo Plex and Carl Cox rinsing his tracks to thousands of people only added to the mounting interest in Damon Jee. He will be making his Australian debut in Melbourne for the launch of new night Darklove before flying to Syndey to play Goodbar - and the anticipation for his arrival is very real.

Novelcast 27: Damon Jee

Tilman is a DJ, producer and label owner based in Mainz, Germany. He runs the longstanding and successful Klamauk label alongside the Fine imprint, a label he co-runs with Johannes Albert. Coming from a hip hop background, Tilman now champions a sound that takes in house, soul, disco and funk. He is an integral part of the Rhein-Main district’s club scene where he plays and hosts club nights. Bookings across the rest of Europe and North America, however, has become a regular feature for him too. The success of his Love EP on Fine and In My Mind EP on Faces really took him from well-known secret to an established booking across many clubs.

Novelcast 28: Tilman

Born into a lifetime love for electronic music, Pretty Girl (Emilia Predebon) has spent the year slowly finding her feet in Melbourne’s music scene. 2019 has been an eventful year for the 21-year old producer, developing her live set to play at clubs and bars all over Melbourne, and headlining a warehouse show run by Handle. Although DJing is a new world to Pretty Girl, her background in production and performance is enhanced by years of experience with different DAWs. In the near future, Pretty Girl intends not only to release and play more of her productions, but continue making mixes full of emotional lo-fi, and glittery ambient house music, just like the Novelcast she has prepared.

Darklove is a counterpoint to nights left unrealised. It is a meditation on a new vibe, a deadly transference intent on bewitching you. It is a sweaty space where monochrome becomes technicolour; where nu, cerebral and cosmic morphs into a dark disco stew.
