As winter takes its last breath in Montreal, we revisit the latest Quebecois artist to grace XYZ - Monarke. The Edge of Reality EP launched earlier this year to a hearty reception, and we follow it up with a set of remixes brimming with innovative energy.

Jessica Zese’s vocal performance on Otherside forms the backbone of the project, offering the centerpiece that sews the thread between these four tracks. Her balance of emotive power and soft prose make for memorable dancefloor moments and crucial character for the remixing artists. 

Russia’s Nadya has crafted a sturdy brand of techo-leaning sounds through projects with Natura Viva and Stil Vor Talent, and she kicks things right into gear with her take on Otherside. A revolving bassline and tripped out vocal stabs ebb and flow, with fluttering melodics filling the high end. Dancefloor bliss!

We’re back in the capital with the 11th installment of the “Stil vor Talent Berlin” compilation series, which brings forth a group of old and new faces exclusively contributing tracks, gathered under the umbrella of one of Berlin’s refreshing delights – Spreepark.

With the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the merry-go-rounds of the initial Kulturpark Plänterwald along the Spree River continued to spin, reborn as Spreepark. The fairground flourished until 2001, enticing Berliners with roller coasters, a Ferris wheel, and a vibrant cultural program, transforming the riverbank into a verdant oasis of enjoyment. However, in 2001, the wheels of time came to a halt as nature reclaimed its space. Amidst the city, flora and fauna flourished, turning Spreepark into a mystical realm that captivated urban explorers navigating through the overgrown remnants of the past.

In 2016, a new chapter unfolded with the initiation of plans to rejuvenate Spreepark through collaborative efforts with Berliners to redefine the space. Jumping ahead to 2023, the city unveiled the first glimpse of the renewed Spreepark with the opening of a beer garden at the historic Eierhäuschen. The vision of a park seamlessly blending art, culture, and unique urban nature is gradually taking shape, with the entire Spreepark anticipated to welcome the public in 2026.

As always, music is the common denominator here and Oliver Koletzki delivers the perfect soundtrack with this new release, while Chrisse Kunst renders the visuals. The featured artists on this exceptional compilation include Jan René Lai, Kellerkind, Deckert & Sascha Home, Malandra Jr., Mila journée & Kiko, Jiggler & Vincent Marlice, Local Dialect, Annett Gapstream & Daniele Di Martino, Fur Coat, Robin Schellenberg & Rauschhaus, Ark Nomads & Cosmosolar, Steve Six, Björn Störig, and Deniz Kabu.

As the melodies of Stil vor Talent resonate, they serve not only as a musical tribute to Spreepark’s rich history but as an invitation to partake in the unfolding symphony of the park’s vibrant future. Join the ride!

Dark Entries is honored to release a 4-track EP by Red Axes, the prolific production duo of Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi from Tel Aviv. The pair were raised on a diet of post-punk, new-wave, and Italo-disco at fogged out warehouse and basement parties. Their own productions and remixes have appeared on labels such as I’m a Cliché, Correspondant, and Hivern Discs. ‘Nyx Tape’ features two new compositions backed with two edits from our catalog. First up is the slick electro anthem “5 Min” another collaboration with French-Canadian born singer Chloé Raunet aka C.A.R. Followed by “Nyx Tape” featuring charismatic singer-lyricist Gina Kikoine aka Gina X, who reached out after hearing their remix of her classic single “No GDM” that was a huge anthem on the Tel Aviv 80s underground scene. The track is an ecstatic dance to the rhythm in the darkness with Gina’s ice cold Teutonic spoken word taking creative inspiration from the Jewish Mourners’ Prayer – The Kaddish. On the B-side “Destination Moon” by Solid Space from 1982 has been given a dancefloor makeover with moody synths and a haunting guitar line reminiscent of an Adrian Sherwood dub. Closing this EP is a hypnotic edit of “La Machine á Rêver” by French bedroom synth freaks X-Ray Pop from 1984 slowed down to a 4/4 groove that takes the original to outer space and back. All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The EP is housed in a custom made jacket that features an original collage by Eloise Leigh representing Nyx, the Greek goddess of the night. Each copy included a postcard with notes and lyrics.

'After the success of Passion Vol.2, we return with two impressive originals from Argentinian wunderkind, Mariano Mellino, and remix support from Blancah. 

Coming from a progressive hotbed like Buenos Aires, means the self-confessed audioholic Mariano has a steep hill to climb to be successful in this industry. Fortunately, he is made of sterner stuff, and is highly regarded by his peers. So it'll come as no surprise his trademark smooth grooves are signed to a glittering array of high profile labels including Global Underground, Sudbeat and Plattenbank to name a few. 

'Astros' is classic Mariano. Rolling bass and skippy percussions soon making way for muscular synths and glittering arps. Forever growing in tension, the break offers momentary respite before we're whipped up into a frenzy with the main drop. On remix duties, fellow South American Blancah takes things deeper, more visceral and more deliberate. 'Enamur' on the flip is a more guttural groove. Stripped back, with razor sharp focus on the growling low end, melodics organically fade into view adding to the drama and tension.'
