Perfectly encapsulating the feeling of being alone with only the flicker of candlelight bouncing off the walls, the title track “Solitude” pulls you into a deep gravity well. The tonality of the bassline stands at the center, weathering the swarm of punishing FX and layered waves of crashing drums that swirl about in endless succession.

Critical Music’s latest powerhouse producer En:vy shifts tempos once again for ‘Alert’, effortlessly reworking his characteristically funk-drenched drum & bass sound within 140bpm.

As demonstrated with the impressively varied ‘Silver Riff’ EP earlier this year, the Austrian producer has little trouble bringing his characteristic ultra-tight grooves and richly layered bass to whatever style he cares to touch.

The tempo might be slower, but ’Alert’ loses none of the raw energy that’s helped rapidly make En:vy’s name - setting dense, gravelly bass oscillations against satisfyingly detuned response tones over a scuffling dubstep rhythm to scratch an itch you never realised you had.

I started this as "just" a new version to play in my DJ sets. I needed Tentacles to be a bit more fun and playful when it drops, but wanted to keep most of the concept of the buildup - which was always the standout part of the track for me.
